Hey Tomy, I remember watching this video when it came out way back in the day, still great informative content all these years later. I was browsing around ACHA rosters, as one does, and I was surprised to see a 40 year old playing for Wash U, and even more surprised when I thought I recognized the guy. Who would have thought the guy telling me the differences in glove breaks would actually be a PHD philosophy student, what a funny world. BTW what's the WJHL, I've never heard of it and can't find any record of it online, pretty solid numbers though. All the best, a kind stranger.

Tomy, i like your style, your stick handling is so inspiring old school and master of something alot of young goalie lack, i cant point it out perfectly because im a noob i only have like 15 games played total but i watch one of your game everyday you inspire me so much, ps: i watch tons of games and you are still the most inspiring goalie to me. Thanks !

Yup, I did. They ended up making this an option and I’ve since gotten my pads without the outer knee gusset.

Tommy, I know this is a random comment years later, but I’ve been using a tps xlite goalie glove from 2004. My buddy just gave me a ccm 600 break that I cannot for the life of me get used it. It’s very stiff and 2 years old and won’t break in all the way. There’s a little bump in the palm,which pretty much makes it not close all the way. I have to sell it. My question is do you have any idea what type of break the almost 20 year old TPS xlite might be? I want my next glove to close like the tps because I like it so much. Im guessing it’s not a 600 because it feels very different from the 600 ccm I had. So that leaves either 580 or 590. Any ideas? I did try on a Bauer Mach which I think is a 590 at goalie monkey and didn’t mind it. But want a glove closest to my TPS. Thanks!
@ourgoalielife
@ourgoalielife 11 месяцев назад
Interesting question! Honestly, I only barely remember the XLite series.. and so I could be misremembering what it felt like. Personally, I remember it feeling very much like a Vaughn in its 'feel' but not necessarily in its closure. It had more of a "pancake" feel like the Vaughns do, but I don't remember a ton about the break itself. I would very much doubt it was a 580 since that was very unique to CCM at the time (and still is) and the 590 might be closer, but I don't think that's quite right, either. If you're insistent on CCM/True, I would try the 590. It's a great all-around break. If you want the same feel and closure as your old TPS, I'd look at the Vaughn line, but honestly I can't give you a very good recommendation as I've *never* used Vaughn, and I haven't even played goalie in... maybe two years now? So I haven't kept up with the gear at all. Sorry I can't be more helpful but hopefully that helped somehow! Good luck!
@Reagles8
@Reagles8 11 месяцев назад
Thanks for your help! Didn't realize you had stopped playing. Not sold on ccm at all. the 600 Eflex I have I can't stand. I tried a couple of Bauers on at goalie Monkey I thought the Bauer Mach felt ok. Think it's a 600, but the kid there thought it was a 590. @@ourgoalielife
@Reagles8
@Reagles8 11 месяцев назад
@@ourgoalielife Also, the reason I thought my TPS was closer to a 580 was because I heard the 580 was made for Patrick Roy. My glove being so old (2004) I thought it would be a 580.. Honestly no idea though.

@ourgoalielife 11 месяцев назад
Hubert, you have no idea how much I truly appreciate you taking the time to tell me that. I made these videos so long ago, back when I still loved being a goalie. Sometimes I still think about those times fondly, and hope one day I regain the spark. Your comment really helps me point in that direction. Who knows what the future holds? We'll see. But for now I'm just really appreciative of you. Good luck out there!

@@ourgoalielife Thank you very much for your answer. I really meant it. It's great that people such as you are sharing this kind of knowledge. I played as a goalie when I was young (4-18), and back then, I had no idea what kind of gear I used. Most of the time, I'd just buy some used stuff from an older goalie. I joined a roller/inline hockey club last year (so 17 years later) and I 'inherited' some Passau goalie gear that belongs to the club. But I'm struggling a bit to get back on track as so much has changed in terms of gear, moves, and even positioning; without even speaking about the differences between ice and hard floor for sliding and stuff. Anyway, thanks for your video, which helps me understand (maybe?) why my puck catching might not be as good as it used to be.

Can you do this with stiff style pads like Bauer hyper lights?
@ourgoalielife
@ourgoalielife Год назад
Good question. I've done this with stiff CCMs, but I've never done it with stiff Bauers. Since this video was made so long ago and I haven't tried the Bauers, I can't guarantee you it'll work the same way, and it might even harm your pad, though that might be a stretch. This method is really meant for either flexible or hybrid style pads, not really stiff ones that don't have any internal and/or external breaks. Hope that helps!

Your best bet is use. Just blood, sweat, and tears. But if you’re having a hard time keeping it open, do the method here and keep it under the couch (or whatever) for longer at the end (like 24 instead of 12 hours).

@ourgoalielife
@ourgoalielife 3 года назад
Did you wrap it in a towel? Usually the towel provides just enough cushion that it won't make any marks. I did have one time where the thumb protector bent in weirdly, but it came right back out as it dried. Without seeing it, the best I can tell you is to let it sit and dry and it might bend back.

Need some advice and have 2 quick questions. First, what level do you play at? Second, I need advise how to deal with my beer league team. 80% of goals I give up are team team inflicted such as no defense, nobody picking up guy in slot or not clearing rebounds and so on. They love to give me tips on what I should be doing and it’s making me pretty frustrated because I keep us in most games. I do honestly give up a dumb goal from time to time but it usually doesn’t cost us the game. What should I do besides trying to get a shutout every game ?

Reading the description - yeah I totally understand being at a certain level and playing better against more set plays and hard shots. When you work up to a certain level its tough to play shooters who fan or don't get everything on every shot or teams that put together alot of broken unpredictable plays and bounces.

Any feedback on pads?....
@ourgoalielife
@ourgoalielife 3 года назад
Hey! They're amazing pads. The legs are similar to Vaughns while the gloves similar to CCMs, in my opinion. Pro level, slide like a dream, no stingers whatsoever. If you have bigger calves like I do, the calf padding is adjustable to allow for more clearance. VERY stiff.. so if you like a more flexible pad, make sure to tell them that going into it.
