Welcome to Sky Dog Reviews. I created this Chanel to share honest product reviews in an effort to help folks out when they are researching various products.
Hey, I've learned a ton from your reviews. Thanks for taking the time to put these together! Quick question, is the fabric in The Jake similar to the fabric in The Scrapper? From what I can tell, The Jake looks like t-shirt material, while The Scrapper looks like sweatpants material. What's your feeling on this?
Thank you for the kind words. The Jake is a softer cotton than The Scapper. The Jake feels like a nice worn in T Shirt similar to the feel of The Youk. The Scapper is still relatively soft, but a bit firmer to the touch compared to The Jake. Both caps are quite comfortable on the head. The Scapper has a more textured feel to it and you can kind of see it on the website. The weave pattern in the fabric looks more like denim, but made with a softer material.
I took a chance with getting all 3 colors of the cool air and they did not disappoint. I’ve been wearing them daily since getting them. Just wish the dark gray wasn’t so dark. It looks almost black.
Thank you. 👍. I did miss the Popeye, by choice. It did not call out to me (which is rare 😄), so I let it pass. Of course, I have done that in the past and picked one up late, like The Harpoon.
Rule number 1: Always start a scally cap video wearing a scally cap! 😂 Just kidding with you, man. We’ll let it slide this time since you had a pretty good excuse! 😂 Another fantastic video, as always! 👍👍
Awesome video!!! I have been thinking about buying The Rocky Marciano, but it looked blue on the Internet, but now I get to see the hat in your video that it is black the way they described it! The only problems that I’ve come across with the Boston Scally hats is the sizing! I have gotten so far 4 hats from them and they’re all XL, and all 4 are a different size! One is very tight, the other is just right, and the other one is a little loose, and the worst is so big that it’s at least 3 times bigger than what it’s supposed to be! I really hate returning stuff in the mail, so I’ve tried my best with Hat sizers to make them fit. Boston Scally doesn’t even show my Hat size, it goes from a 58CM straight to a 60CM without bothering to stop at 59CM! 🙁
Thank you for the kind words. Sizing can be a bit tough when you are in between BSC sizes. The general rule of thumb is that the heavier weight caps (wool blend) tend to run a bit big and the lighter fabrics (poly blends) tend to run a bit tighter. It is not always the case as even BSC says that there is a +/- 1 CM in sizing, but it generally works out that way. Tighter caps can be stretched a bit, looser caps can be steamed to shrink a bit as well as using sizing tape, but I get the frustration on the fit. For me I tend to prefer a looser fit so I have gone up a size on the styles where I was in between.
I have been debating on doing seasonal based reviews with Summer being at the front of my mind as temps are approaching triple digits. A few more arrivals due next week, so stay tuned.
I have not tried linen and I do not believe BSC makes one in linen. They have some in lightweight cotton and some in cotton twill, but the lightest weight fabric they make is the cotton poly blend in my opinion.
@@SkyDogReviews reviewing their site I see they have a new nylon one they claim is the coolest in summer I might try that out I ordered a linen but from another brand I won't mention because I don't know if you just push this brand. I live in Florida so it's hot and humid.
@stephenshanebeaty I do not represent any company, I just enjoy my BSC. The nylon Repels are light weight, but do not breath as well as some of the other fabrics. Best warm weather caps in BSC lineup are The Trainer series in 6 or 8 panel. The Cape Codder series. The Caddy series. The Youk series or similar caps (like the Lucky series. The cotton twill caps are nice, but run a tad warmer the caps listed.
It’s a Kebnor handheld steamer. If I had to get another one, I would opt for one that can stand on its own so I could work the cap and fabric with both hands.
They didn't put the newer logo in until just recently. I think last year was when the logo was updated, so you probably just got one of the older versions that had the generic BSC logo still.
I got last year’s Driftwood Grey and it had the Cape Codder logo. Marine Blue was sold out last fall so this should be from this year’s run. Got one other comment of the Saltbox Blue with Lobster with the standard logo as well. It will be interesting to see if there are more reported.
@SkyDogReviews my bad, it was actually 2022 that BSC updated the inside, I'm really not exactly sure why a couple of the colors seem to still have the older logo inside.
@shawnjones7562 It is a bit weird as I have the Saltbox Blue Lobster from this year’s run with the logo liner while someone else got the basic. It is kind of random.
I received my Codder caps yesterday. My Saltbox Blue Lobster cap arrived with a crooked seam, and the inside graphic was just the standard BSC logo instead of the special design. Although the graphic isn't a huge deal since it's only visible to me, the seam issue is disappointing, especially since the Lobster hat is now sold out. On a positive note, the Grey Sand Shark and Black Sand Shark caps, which I got for myself and my son, were both perfect. I reached out to BSC last night about the seam issue and am waiting for their response. I'll be doing a video next week probably once I hear back from them.
Interesting on the standard logo, must have been some kind of shortage or error in production. I wonder how many more logo errors made it out into the world? It will be interesting to see how BSC responds to your issue.
Single panels definitely are a unique style. If you like the look of the single panel, check out the 5 panel caps. They are a cross between the single panel and 8 panel.
When the Captains became available again, I immediately ordered the Saltwood Grey. I was so impressed with the fit, look and comfort of it that I ordered the Black Pearl and I love that one too. Also picked up a mariner blue Caddy and will be getting a couple more of those as well. I enjoy your videos, keep them coming!
They just got re-released a week ago, out of stock sizes normally refill during the summer and fall months. Glad you enjoy the videos, some new ones coming out soon. 👍
I agree 100% with the need for a lightweight 5 panel cap. I will buy it as soon as it comes out. Also, Boston Scally needs to come out with some really lightweight fabrics, lighter than the Captain and Caddy. I own both of them, but still want something even lighter for summer, and no liner.
The Trainer series is about the only BSC that comes without a liner. The Youks and The Caddy’s have a thin liner. The Cape Codders also have a thin liner as well in 6 Panel. One of these days, BSC will answer my prayers with a light 5 Panel.
@@SkyDogReviews My Birdie doesn’t have a liner. I don’t like the way the 6 panels look on me, so the Trainer is not an option. I bought a Trainer once and returned it, just didn’t like how it fit me. I’m with you though, the 5 panel is my favorite.
Great video! I own a Sailor, so I decided to pass on the Captain’s, but I really like the Bronze Rum color now that I’ve seen it in your video. I ordered three Cape Codders yesterday-two for me and one for my son. I already had one, but I wanted a size up since it was a bit snug.
Sailors are great caps. So are The Cape Codders (have six of them heading inbound). The Captains are very similar to The Sailors, if you enjoy the fit of a Sailor you should be happy with a Captain.
Another great video. Glad you and some of our other Boston Scally Crew brothers are doing RU-vid reviews to help the new Scally wags get started. There wasn’t much out there when I first started to collect. Keep up the good work brother!!
Thank you for the kind words. 👍 I started doing reviews because of those who came before me. When I was new to the BSC world, I really appreciated all the video reviews online as I was able to see the caps in normal lighting settings and on different folks heads. I figured I would do a couple of video reviews to help grow the community and help others out. I am glad that you have found the reviews helpful.
It is an interesting design, but not quite sure I will be picking these up on the drop. I was not a big fan of the mesh back trucker baseball caps, so I am going to let these pass, for now.
Thank you! Watching my videos may not be financially sound for some viewers 😆. Probably need to put on a disclaimer. 😄 There is another BSC review on the near horizon, just have not shot it yet as I keep getting more caps that need to be included.
I guess each country differs. The only thing I found on BSC’s website was, “Import duties, taxes and other charges are not included in the item price or shipping costs. These charges are the buyer’s responsibility.” Not very specific and they do not list the charges by country.
I love the single panels. I even emailed BSC asking for more lightweight singles. My first 2 caps were the black and the gray Bruiser and I love them. Just recently got into the 8 panels. I had been leery about trying them but after I got my first one, I just kept buying them lol. I have the Triple Crown and the Derby coming which puts me up to about 20 total caps now. I tried one 6 panel, the black/ gray Trainer, I tried to like it, but it never felt right or looked right on my tiny head, so I ended up selling it. I'm not a baseball cap kind of guy. I've never been much of a hat guy, the only time I wore hats was when I was in the military and that's because I had to. Now that I shave my head bald and I'm getting older I need to keep the sun off of my head so BSC is now my go to. I like the reviews, and I'm on the same BSC FB pages as you, so I'll see you there!
Thank you. I was leery of the 6 panels at first, but have since added a bunch to my collection. The Sailor in Mariner Blue got me hooked on the 6 panels and I have been adding them to the collection ever since. The options for light weight caps in Single Panel are not as plentiful, but The Keepers and The Birdie fit the bill if you are leaning in that direction.
I really like the wine color Aficionado! I have almost bought that a few times. After seeing it's true color in this video I am going to buy it. Reminds me of the color of my airborne beret in the Army. I agree, in person my Boston Scally caps always look a little darker than on their website. Because I appreciate your reviews I've watched in the past I posted up a link to your channel in my latest Boston Scally review video descrip[tion. I hope it sends a few new views and subs your way 👍🙂
Thank you! I am glad you have enjoyed the reviews. It is definitely nice to see the caps in a more natural setting instead of the white box promo photos on the web page. The Aficionado in Homemade Wine is definitely a color that looks better in hand. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
@@SkyDogReviews Happy to do it. I post mostly dog related content, but occasionally post reviews. The video I linked you in the description was here... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gtgU_qsIgiw.html I have another one posting tomorrow regarding how to shrink or how to stretch a scally cap I linked you in as well (as a Boston Scally channel I recommend).
Are all your Boston Scally hats size XL or depending on style do you have to go to size ML ? I had to return three trainer style hats in XL got a gift card and going to reorder size ML. What do you think ? An aside Boston Scally issued me the gift card when they saw that I had mailed the hats back. My head size is 59 CM. I have the Original Boston Scally Cap - The Scrapper Newsboy Flat Cap - 6 Panel Cotton Fitted Hat in XL and it fit.
I am purely in XXL now. When I started, I was in XL in single panels as that is where my head size was listed and XXL in 8 panel. As my collection grew, I found that different fabrics tended to fit differently. Heavier weight fabrics tend to fit looser and lighter weight fabrics tended to fit a bit tighter. I went XXL with my first 5 panel and loved the fit and even went XXL with 6 panels and liked the fit even though my head size should have been XL in 6 panel. I have since gone with XXL in single panel as well. If you are in between sizes, I would tend to favor the larger size in lighter fabrics and the smaller size in the heavier weight fabrics. Hope this helps.
I bought a couple Boston scallies when they first came out. Price was ok. But now their prices are on par with or more expensive than other brands made in Europe. Plus, those other brands have superior fabrics. All in all, I think Boston Scallies are over priced for Chinese made polyester hats.
Thank you. I own several NATO Bands as I find them the most comfortable watch bands I have worn. Most of mine come from Blu Shark. I found them when I was looking for larger bands to accommodate my larger wrist size..
Fantastic! I’m rocking a Kangol bamboo 507. I absolutely love it .. slim , can bend brim and super light and airy… but looking to expand and try boston scally. Super helpful video man.
@@SkyDogReviewsI ended up buying two workers, one trainer and the punk I’m on the waiting list for the sailor. I hope my size comes back in stock. Thanks a million
These hats are great I have the heringbone 5 pannel and the charcoal scrapper. However I'm getting a group together for a intervention for you Jk..You're doing a good job thank you
The Townie is a great cap. The fabric is fairly light and flexible with less structure than other fabrics so you should be able to,e to maintain a slim look.
Have you tried a sterkowski? They are great hats too. The only other brand i have found on a level with bscally. idk if they are as good stylistaclly@@SkyDogReviews
Found someone who else has a lot of these. I’ve got about 35-38 of these I just love them. Found a few from you videos now I’ve got to go get them. Thanks for the reviews.
Thank you for the kind words. The analytics show most folks only watch around 6 mins of the videos, but obviously that averages those that only hang around very briefly. Congrats on the addiction. 😄
what size of like a fitted baseball cap do you wear? I wear a 7 5/8 so I'm wondering what size of Boston Scally to get. It looks like I'm at an XL or XXL according to their size guide.
Their size guide is really good. I am a 7 3/4 New Era fitted ball cap and have found the XXL a good fit. Each hat style has its own unique size chart so it is best to look at all four size charts (single, 5, 6, and 8 panels) depending on which hat you are looking to get. If you are in between sizes, lighter fabric hats tend to fit snug while the heavier fabrics tend to fit a bit looser.
