The Thrifty Apprentice (Ken Johnson) created this channel to help everyone from novice to expert grow as artist. The channel was started to share, and spread love through the joy of painting. He is inviting everyone into this wonderful community of art to either grow with him, or to help him grow. Ken wants to take the art of watercolor painting and everything that accents it, and share it with the world. With a firm belief that we can change lives one art piece at a time! He also wants to bring the love of crafting to the same community showing how the work hand and hand. Leaving him to always express his unifying statement of “Just Keep Creating”!
Here Ken is inviting you to share in: 1. Tips, tricks, techniques, field test, and reviews simple enough for complete watercolor novice 2. Art creation ideas with other mediums that accent and enhance watercolors. 3. Amazing idea for art journal, junk journal, and sketchbook creation. Combining the world of watercolor with crafting
@@beas2761 Hi there Ken here. Yes I have tried them, and there is a review on the channel. You can find it from the search icon, or by looking through the thrifty review playlist.
I love inks! They are fun to sketch with. These are Gorgeous flowers! The quill is a really fun element, too. Makes me smile to see someone using a good-old-fashioned feather!
The smaller portable painter ...the paint palette comes out of the bottom and the bottom is a water cup and then it is easy to attach the water cup and the mixing palette to the sides.
Lovely swan, Ken!!! 🦢 Good to be watching your videos again. (I took a giant break from art to focus on some other stuff.) And oh boy, what changes! You've got a new website, new profile, your own products, you are working on a card line, your patreon looks amazing ~ Congratulations!! How cool!! 🎉🥳 I am glad to be here for your first try with masking fluid at least, haha! I have sooo much catching up to do in the World of Art. 😅 I feel like your channel has just gotten better and better! And it's so inspiring! That's what comes from your dedication and courage ~ "Just keep creating!" 🎨📒⚡️ Words of wisdom! Belated congratulations on everything!! 🎂🪩🪅
Wow really encouraging words. Yes a lot has happened in a short amount of time. I feel really blessed. Mainly because I have so much support from so many wonderful people like yourself.
@@thethriftyapprentice Yes, you have been building a great community here! I just found your lives. And not everyone (certainly not shy-irl artists like myself) can make videos, do lives! You make art so accessible and are so encouraging. (For instance, I really appreciate how you explained that Inktober is not required to be EVERYday. For the longest time I've been feeling sad that I've missed out on so much art and Inktober AGAIN, but because of your point of view, I am inspired to do at least ONE before Halloween. So tysm for that!) It only makes sense that all the good vibes you send out in the world come back to you! Have a wonderful week, Ken/Thrifty! 🌞🍁
I just brought the 5 tubes set of this gouache because of the name. I haven't opened them and I will be returning them. I want something that is opaque. Thanks for the review.
So good to see you again on my feed! Your style is so calming. I recently purchased some gouache paint but have been intimidated because my normal medium is watercolor. You’ve convinced me to give it a try! Happy to see you again!
I am very happy RU-vid decided to let me roll across your feed again! I have had others tell me they have to actually come to the channel looking for my videos. The algorithm just does whatever it wants to lol. However, I am super excited to have you back as a part of the community. You should absolutely give the gouache a try.
My goal was to be able to go straight to ink drawing and skip pencil. It's going lol. I see some improvement but I have flew through some paper with the mess ups.
I remember use talking about that. We both know they aren’t the greatest lol. Especially if you dry them down. Sooo hard to re-wet, and a get pigment pay off. These are completely different. In the best way possible.
I'm not sure if I've improved over the month but I know I've improved from my first inktober. I've been trying to stick to using only ink this year and practicing my dip pen control. My dip pen control has improved a little and I have some Inktense colors and some Tombow Fudenosuke colored liners.
Saturday night at 11pm I found my self ready for sleep and realized I hadn't done my prompt for the day! I did a quick 5 min painting then added a little more the next day. Also, yesterday was "uncharted" and I didn't have much time so I looked up the Gilligan's island island, and I did it in black and white.
InkTober has been taking up a lot of my time, too, but I'm having fun and I've actually been doing it every day. I can't believe I've made it this far lol.
My goal for inktober was to be better drawing with ink directly. As of today I can honestly say that there has been little improvement, because I haven’t been consistent😢. Life has gotten in the way and I haven’t been able to draw consistently. Hopefully as time go goes on, I will be able to improve my skillls
I now I have 3 of the travel palettes after watching you review or showcase them in past videos. These videos should come with an "Enabler Alert" disclaimer Ken.. Thanks for sharing your input on these as it helps me figure out what's next...like that cute little turquoise one. I use to watch Bob Ross as a kid, mesmerized at the ease of his skill. I turn his live streams on when I go to bed and drift off into landscapes in my dreams.
I can’t wait to fill it up. Just trying to find the right tubes to put in it that I don’t already have a palette made of. I might mix a bunch of pro brands in it. The micro as well.
Thank you love for your support. There are some good gouache choices depending on what you are looking for. My look into different gouache brands will start soon.
Good Morning my artsy friends! Come on in and enjoy this quick watercolor Christmas card front Timelapse. I will be back on Sunday with a cool close up look at travel palettes.
