I like the oar rites. That's been a problem for me and now I know how to fix it! Thanks for that. Question: How do you calculate how long the oars should be?
Love this. ru-vid.comUgkxntWMOZsO1Zfv-pdn_XuffEtNkTYAYu4Z recommend Got it a couple weeks ago hated having to wait almost 2 weeks to get it out fishing. This pole is one of our new catfish poles. It stood up quite well today. It casts great. It reels smoothly. The pole is easily collapsible. friend ended up catching only one fish because we didn't have too long to fish, and he reeled it in easily. Good buy. Hubby is happy so I am happy! Looking forward to warmer temps so we can spend more time playing with it!
Thank you so much for this video. I literally watched this when I drifted out into the middle of a lake and realized I didn't know how to row! Life saver
The last part of his pull stroke is just arms; it should be mainly torso. Lean back as much as you can! When you pull both with your arms AND with your upper body, you can row indefinitely - regardless of how strong or weak you are. And you will finally get rid of that back pain which you've been complaining about for ages!
Good points! You want to be seated so, that you can move your body both back and forth: you do not row that much with your arms, you row especially with your body. This oar lock system is antiquated; that is why the oar rights are needed. Modern oar locks, which can be found today even on cheap boats (such as the Intex Mariner 3 or 4), keep the oars so, that they rotate exactly as you need them to do so you can row with your mind elsewhere (video call home, scenery, potential dangers, etc.). Professional rowers have the oar handles overlap (that is, no distance between the oar ends) for maximum rowing efficiency. Rowing, then, takes a little getting used to, but doesn't anything else?
I've been fishing Pennsylvania for many years. Like 50. I use a double surgeon knot on my tippet materials. And only a sixth turn improved clinch. They don't fail me. You're so pretty bomb-proof
Not as practical as a 9' tapered leader ending in 4x, especially in smaller streams. I add about 2' of 5 or 6x depending on conditions and nymph being used. Yarn works well as an easily adjustable indicator.
Hello there. I believe we have chatted on Facebook about boat size. This one is a 13'6"- our bread and butter that represents 90% of our sales. Send a note to that email I gave you on Facebook and we can try to get you some photos. And we'll be getting photos of some 14'6"'s we have going out this spring, too. Thanks!
If adding oar locks to a home built row boat, is it alwaysbest at the widest part of the boat? Does it matter on location? ( the crossmembers/ seats have not been installed yet). Thanks
I don't think positioning with regards to width is important. Oar position needs to be near the center of the boat in order to maximise ease in pivoting. Our oars are typically slightly back of center. This affords quick pivot while allowing for more control when crabbing. Hopefully this helps. Good luck with your boat.
hello i enjoyed video im realy liking them oars and the oar stopper and the oar right i believe its called im just boat a row boat yesterday so i pretty much no nothing watching youtube videos i no im going to have fun with my new boat if you could advise me to get the oar set up you have that would be awsome
Hey Glenn, I know that Sawyer is overwhelmed with orders this year and I believe all of our oars are already sold with our SOTAR Strike setups but you can contact the shop and see if we have any additional ones coming in. Email our manager - matthew@blackfootriver.com Cheers -JH
@Blackfoot River Outfitters I have been fly fishing for a little over a year and I'm getting the flies at the right depth, I'm using the right technique, I'm fishing the right flies, I'm fishing at the right time, and my local fly shop says I'm doing everything right and i haven't caught a single trout! Do you have any suggestions? I'm getting pretty frustrated.
Change it up, sometimes your leader length is incorrect, look for hatches, flip some rock over to see what the fish are eating, throw an attractor fly to get the fishes attention. I’ve caught 7 one day and not one bite the next.
Love the great info. What is that seat/pad on your dry box? It looks comfortable and has the added advantage of keeping a lower center of gravity than other seat options.
This is bullshit. Buy a Hanak french leader and loop it to your backing. That's right!-- backing. You don't need fly line with a proper french leader. Buy an inline floating indicator that has tippett rings on the tags. This is a contraption he's making here. Waste of time.
Always interesting to hear other perspectives, though we tend to keep things a little more friendly. We switch to different methods through the day and we have had a good amount of success with this. Glad you have a way to fish that makes you happy (well.. not happy) but have fun out there!
I have a 14’ hyside and it’s my first boat. Been super happy with it, but it’s really interesting to understand the differences between different manufacturers and designs. Thanks!
I've been rowing for decades and keep going back and forth on using and not using oar rites. This convinced me to just keep them on....the elbow thing was the selling point. Thanks so much for an informative video - look forward to seeing your new shop!
