In my opinion, all hounds are underrated. My mixed breed Buddy, is a example. He will let me know if someone is around, then go see if they want to pet him.
Its not just bloodhounds, all coon hounds, walkers, blueticks, redbones, redticks, black and tans, and plot hounds all very protective and great watchdogs. Had 2 blueticks and both of them were outstanding watch dogs.
I had a basset hound one night my toby looked at me seconds later someone knocked at my door he was smart he even fou nd his way home my dad had sundown dimentia let him out he came home miss my toby he got old😢
If you want a really scary sniffer look no further than a bear. The hard part is not getting mauled and eaten while training bears to track. Still 60 times better sniffer power of a blood hound compared to humans is impressive. It would have been nice to mention that those long floppy ears help funnel the scent to the bloodhounds nose as well. I have liked the hounds I have met but do not believe I have met a blood hound yet.
