At Dieselgeek, we're all about saving you time. To achieve this, we have put together many kits that are very specifically aimed at reducing the headaches associated with owning and maintaining your car. Our videos back up our products in a condensed visual form.
hello. I put this part, turned off the error through diagnostics, and the error appeared again on the engine. What is the problem? Does anyone know? Thanks
So when replacing the bushing where you need to drill the whole and install the snap ring supplied with the kit do you also need to install the factory c clip as well or does the supplied snap ring keep everything held together?
My hat is off to you for trying to show what should be an easier method but I'm just gonna take my manifold off to do this. I took it off recently to clean it & it's still fresh in my memory. 👍
Greetings! I’ve a Jetta 6, gear 2 doesn’t show on the dashboard, when I select great 3, the dashboard e displays that the car is in great 2.. what could be the problem with this car??
The materials we chose for the bushings do not require additional lubrication. A LIGHT smear of multipurpose grease is fine, but excessive lubricant simply attracts abrasive dirt. If you are not in the US and you are not able to get shipping rates then we are not currently shipping directly to your country. If this is the case we recommend sending the items to a freight forwarder in the US and then have the freight forwarder ship the items to you. We wholeheartedly apologize for the inconvenience but there is no other way to get items to you currently. Shipping internationally is tricky right now. And tricky is putting it nicely.
A light smear of multi-purpose grease would be better. And we really emphasize light because excessive lubricant just attracts dust which tends to exacerbate wear.
You can also use a stepped drill bit, put it in 4th gear, drill it big enough to remove the clip and pull the shifter out. Then enlarge the hole if needed
Excellent video, you’ve just saved me a fortune. My mechanic was trying to make out that I needed a new gear box when all I needed was to clean and lubricate the pivot point for the left/right shift. Thanks a million 👍
Might take 20 minutes to move a pint through. The bleeders on anything current aren't threaded, but even so fluid will only seep a bit. Not enough to matter.
Would this modification be doable on a 2015 MK7 Golf TDI 6-Speed? I’m in the process of installing my Sigma 6 and would like to do this, but I didn’t hear you mention it being applicable to the MK7 or MK8.
Whoa Andy! After my venture into refurbishing my front and rear suspension that I was so happy with (and still am) I went out for a shake down cruise and lost all but 2nd gear. Local shops predicted a range of $400.00 to $4,000.00 US to repair/replace the transmission! Armed with my recent Andycharger confidence I said what the hell and decided to go for it myself. After a monumental search I located a firm that offered a bushing kit for everything from the engine bay to the shifter. The engine bay was CAKE but the shifter tree rebuild required drilling a 1 1/4" access window and an embarrassing number of tools whose names I won't drop! Trust me it was an ordeal just holding my breath while manipulating bushings on the shifter pins and slipping cable eyes over the bushings and then forcing the retainer clips on . One poor move and retrieving those parts through that 1 1/4" access window and it would have been back to the drawing board for plan "B"! Well "SUCCESS" on the parts installation and on to the gear alignment process which sounded harrowing but turned out to be a breeze. Shakedown cruise was a complete and I took the time to tune in the adjustments which now has the shifting working tighter and smoother than before! Still Andrew, you get the credit because without gaining the confidence from you videos I would never have taken this on, THANKS! *Credit goes out to DieselGeeks as well. The Deluxe kit for the Audi TT MK1 was dead on. I know one comment was an upset statement about the cost of the it but the cost of your parts package was a fraction of what a shop would have cost me for this refurbishment, so THANKS!
Just put this in my 2014 TDI. HUUUGE difference in performance. I regularly do my oil changes, filters, and the timing belt. Couldn’t not figure out why I had hesitation going from idle to 2nd gear. Dealerships kept saying nothing was wrong. Glad this little addition solved the issue before it turned into a p2015.
No. TDI only with intake manifold 03L129711E. Please read product description, instructions, and or email us if you have any qustions sales @ dieselgeek.com
Just a friendly heads up, the MK6.5 GLI center console is substantially different. Looks the same, but the way it's pieced together is half this half that. I'll remove my seats and just start prying!
Hi Having trouble putting the old center console frame trim back on Any tips or tricks for those particular clips etc? Having trouble pushing it all the way in Thanks
You only need to gain access to the engine compartment end of the cable. Just remove the bolt securing the cable end to the front to back bracket on the selector shaft.
I have seen multiple recommendations for your kits and videos. Was wondering if you could answer a few questions for me, as I see the kits a bit cheaper elsewhere but am willing to pay a little more for 'good support'. 2013 Jetta 2.0 TDI Sportwagen with just over 130k miles on it. No issues with engine performacne, everything runs smooth and tight. Bought it from a dealership at 108k miles through the Volkswagen buyback program after the TDI 'fix'. Not knowing whether the belt has been replaced before so it is definitely time. I have replaced a timing chain, multiple water pumps, and even replaced a head gasket on a car before including all new valves (had a timing chain break in a Grand Am but got lucky to not have engine damage). Having moderate mechanical skills, but in not a mechanic. Is this something I can tackle in my own garage? What would you estimate for the amount of time required? Just some questions I have before I commit to the repair, or decide to take it to our local VW certified garage. Before I go all in, is this a job that can be done without a lift and do I need any specialty tools? If so do you have a link to a tool kit for it? Not looking for Snap On quality, just something sufficient to do it a few times without crumbling.
Hi Kevin - It sounds like you have more than enough wrenching experience to get this done. Generally if you know righty-tighty lefty-loosey, can/will follow instruction, have a jack, stands, and decent set of hand tools this won't be a problem. We cover all the necessary tools you'll need right at the beginning of the video and you get access moments after you order your kit. That allows you to pick up anything you're short on before taking your car apart. Most importantly if you get stuck you can always email or (gasp) call us if you run into a snag. Regarding specialty tools: You'll need the set we offer here: dieselgeek.com/collections/vw-tdi-timing-belt-kits/products/metalnerd-vw-common-rail-timing-belt-tool-kit Also an M10 triple square dieselgeek.com/collections/vw-tdi-timing-belt-kits/products/m10-triple-square-socket-for-common-rail-timing-belt-job And if you don't have a bunch of hose pinch pliers the cap plug set is a good idea. dieselgeek.com/collections/vw-tdi-timing-belt-kits/products/cap-plug-set-for-timing-belt-job
just had my "Deluxe Shifter Bushing kit for 2008+ MK5 and Mk6 vehicles" arrive for my 2010 mk6 gti. I'm putting together a list of parts/tools I will need before getting started - from watching your video I have so far: JB weld 2 part epoxy 8mm (5/16") drill bit 28.575mm (1 1/8") hole saw 2.38125mm (3/32") drill bit sandpaper for super pin card stock Am I missing anything?
No, we do not offer a short shifter for MQ200. We do offer a high quality side to side bracket which elimates the poorly designed plastic bell crank and eliminates a ton of baked-in slop. dieselgeek.com/collections/vw-shifter-bushings/products/metal-side-to-side-reduction-bracket-for-mq200-only
In the middle of this fix from a front/back cable that slipped off. Your videos have been instrumental and I very much appreciate you making and sharing them with the public. I won’t know until tomorrow whether we need parts or not, but if so, you will obviously get our business. Thanks again Legends!
