There is singers, and then there is Anouk. Anouk is one of a kind. Her singing is so much more than just singing. Her voice comes up from her toes like a force of nature, and immediately grabs you like a musical lump in the throat. This tough lady, who always pursues her own course, following her musical intuition, has had a hold on the Netherlands for over fifteen years now.

Het was een prachtige zwoele avond en we hebben genoten van het concert en de bruiloft. Een herinnering die ik met mijn zoon deel en mijn leven lang zal koesteren.
Prachtig nummer, slijmerige clip. Past niet bij Anouk vind ik. Al dat social media gedoe. Voortaan zijn we meer bezig met wat de artiesten in hun leven allemaal (verkeerd) doen, in plaats van gewoon naar hun muziek luisteren. Boeie dat iemand vreemd gaat, of dronken is, of ruzie heeft met zijn/haar moeder, etc. En al die tv programma's waar al die bekende (b) artiesten inzitten wordt je ook simpel van. Gewoon mooie muziek maken en uitbrengen en meer niet.
Ik heb kippenvel Anouk, ik kijk hier altijd even naar, en ik moet een dikke traan weg vegen zeg. Wat een prachtige nummer heb je geschreven, voor één van de mooiste dagen in jou leven, een prachtige ode aan jou man op jullie trouwdag. Echt prachtig! Je hebt zo'n lieve stem. Ik volg jou al heel erg lang, en ik heb jou diepe dalen en hoogtepunten allemaal meegekregen, ik voelde altijd jou pijn, want diezelfde pijnen heb ik ook. Jij kent mij uiteraard niet, maar je raakt me altijd, ik zie mezelf in jou terug. Jij bent recht door zee, je staat voor jou standpunt. En dat vind ik zo prachtig aan jou. I wish I could have been there. My mom passed away on March 10th two months after her 103rd birthday. I took care of my mom from 2013 to last year as she gradually became more dependent on me. You along with Lara Fabian inspired me to take voice lessons while I was caring for mom. I am 71 and occasionally daydream of singing Birds with you. I have a baritone voice with an extended range. I could either sing Birds down the octave or up, your choice. But, it's just a dream. Anouk, your head voice is much stronger than before. Someday I will visit the Netherlands and get to hear you live in consort. I don't know which box I packed them in when I moved. But, I kept a pair of my mom's gold earrings to give you as thank you for all your music has given me through the years, especially during the trying times. I hope you and Dominique have the very best of life together. I am happy that through this video, I was able to share your moment of joy. You are a beautiful bride, your gown was exquisite. Anouk is only becoming better and better as years pass by! When I used to watch the voice of Holland, before the scandals, I always felt that there is an anger and a level of disgust exhuming from her towards Ali.B and M.Borsato, specially towards Ali B, to the point that it almost felt she was dissociating from the fact that they are even in the same space and fully concentrating on the participants...Anyway I am glad that she is back, healthy and sharing her voice with us. Although I wish the lyrics were more like her " Nobody's wife" as to these submissive love songs. Even "Runaway together" was brilliant , when it is the girl who is totally committed yet she finds herself alone running towards the sun or maybe her lover or perhaps she discovers herself and that she is complete and does not need anyone... The beauty of storytelling both in the lyrics and in the video in its ambiguity was very Anouk. I understand that she is in love but one can be in love and yet still believe in equality in the partnership as to one be so called bossy and the other taking it because he/she is in love! My hope is that she doesn't turn religious believing in a fictional god and the white dress and the vows were mere theater, as I always have loved the fact that she forever has been years beyond the social and religious contracts shoved down our throats .... I had to come back and add this after reading an article about Anouk and her recent marriage to Domenique, ending with "Well, I guess somebody's wife now!?" It totally made me furious. As anyone who have been following Anouk very well knows, she has been married several times, however she NEVER fell into the trap of a traditional wife. If they misbehaved or if the love was not felt by either Anouk or the husband she wouldn't stay and make them both miserable. This is what she meant by saying :"I am nobody's wife." I am very disappointed by these so called writers who never noticed that how much she tries to teach people nonverbally but by example. Even for Vogue she REFUSED to be covered by jewelry for the reasons that we all know...And yet no one even mentioned it. The fact that her ceremony was public marrying a black man where and when we are only getting more close minded, intolerant and resistant is another example. She is a true artist and a wonderful person, She even used to take a back seat to Shirma, allowing her to have the center stage which shows me a lot of confidence and simply kindness...Anouk is truly a national and international treasure. I am laughing at anyone who kept comparing her with Alanis Morissette in the 90's( She too is brilliant, just very different vocally) ... They are not even barely alike... At the end I also am aware that I don't know Anouk and may have only built her up in my mind the way I wish to see her, but I doubt it ...
