Thank you for the 6mm Remington reloading video. Really enjoyed a view of your reloading setup. The RCBS dies are classic!! I have been searching for a LH 788 Remington, in 6mm, for some time. When I finally find the rifle, I hope it is as pristine as your model 788. Thanks again, all the best.
I have a Tikka M55 in 6mm Rem. 6x18 Bushnell scope had it since the mid 70s,,I love it,,I found 14 boxes of 95gr Super Performance Hornady..These shells turned it into a 308😮😅😊
Your brass looks really bright and clean. Are you lubricating your brass? If so, what do you lube with? I’ve been using Lee case sizing lubricant otherwise the brass sticks inside the die. Here in the States, I’m loading Alliant Reloder 22 to push 6mm Remington 100 gr Nosler Partitions. The 6mm Remington has been an effective white tail deer hunting round for my wife and daughters.
I bought one of these 10 years ago - it came with a Bausch & Lomb 2.5-8 x ??? scope and is left-handed. Shot reasonably well using factory loads; however, with handloads, it shoots really, really well. Currently using 100 grain ProHunter with 35 grains of IMR 4895 powder with an OAL of 2.755". Tack driver is a good term for this rifle. It could probably do with a nicer scope, but I'm not going fix something that ain't broke.
If remington would've offered the 244 rem with 1 in 9 twist they would've dominated the market from the 50's until today. And it's a shame. Not knocking the .243 win but we all know the 6mm rem is a better round.
My 788 is chambered in .308 and I wasn't aware they made that model in 6mm. Very interesting! I'm aware that the 6mm is a higher velocity round, but if you have any input, how does it compare to .308?
The 6mm Remington is probably better compared to its long time rival the 243 Winchester. The 6mm is a necked down 7x57 Mauser and the 243 is a necked down 308 Winchester. Only about 100fps difference between the 243 and the 6mm.
I finally found a Rem. 222 Rem. & in the 6mm Rem., both have dropped,Tx. White Tails and hundreds of varmints in the Hill Country. All shots @ 80-300 yards; clean kills too. I have spl. hand loads for each one. Love them too.
Definitely, I'd like to build one on a long action, give it a long 1-8" twist barrel and should the heavier 107+ projectiles. I think it would keep up with most of the modern 6mm target cartridges.👍
Which model Boyds are you thinking of? I put mine in the featherweight thumbhole. I like it, but there's a couple things worth noting...it is NOT feather weight at all. And it has sharper edges than I expected. If I were to do it again I would go with the spike camp to reduce weight and soften the lines. The good news is, it is a direct drop in. Unless you have a timney trigger, then you have to relieve the safety area and some internal surface. Not hard to do with a dremmel.
i feed my 788 in 6mm, 100gr hornady sp (3100 fps) and 75 gr hornady hp (3400 fps). pronghorn to marmots. got it through my father, he said it's nick name is the poor man's tack driver. he was correct!
I was gifted a 788 that had been modified into a Benchrest Precision Rifle! It was still in 6mm Remington. At 100 yards it will consistently group less than .4 inch or less. Found a Ruger Model One in 6mm Rem. Had the fore-end hanger modified and use it for varmints and deer. Love the 6mm Rem. Only draw back is finding ammo! A friend reloads for me and that makes it easier! Thanks for bring both a great rifle and caliber back to be noticed!
