I didn't even watch the show growing up, but I always watched and listened to this particular intro before finding something else to do. The dog-barking was my favorite part.

As sad as it was that Homer got stuck, how life continues on for him, and Homer found a happy place for a moment at least, along with this music, made it felt like "things are going to be okay". I think the creators realize how much of a downer the end of the episode was, so they eased us, letting us know it's going to be fine.
