@@exposeevil5492 No it isn't - there is no evidence whatsover that the maypole was ever thought of as having such connotation. It was never carved as a phallus - but it did allow for a spectacular display of garlands and greenery to be hung from it. Ideas of fertility rites and such are typical late 19th/early 20th century folklore studies nonsense. And the ribbon dance is 19th century, if you were wondering.
