wonderful program, perfect listening for a languorous sunday afternoon in october 🎃📚. the open curtain is my favorite of evenson’s work; it surprises me that it hasn’t achieved wider critical recognition and seems much less popular/known among readers than his recent story collections and his other novel from that period (ie last days, which is also a brilliant and highly entertaining read; but neither the occasional bits of deliberately cartoonish dialogue nor the novel’s abiding fixation on extreme acts of bodily mutilation were really to my taste. it’s great and i’d take it over most contemporary fiction, genre or otherwise, but to my mind the open curtain is nearly a perfect horror novel-that scene where Lyndi goes out to the shed and finds Rudd’s essay chilled me to the bone 😨
Erica Sanchez is a fraud. She stole that story from someone else. Everyone who knows her, knows that what she wrote were stories about someone else, not about herself. She's a phony.
I was reluctant to reading this book. I thank my sister, Claudia Palomares who bough this book for our “sister book club”. After reading the first chapters, i didn’t want to put it down. I read it and I also audio read later at night because everyone in the house was sleeping. Info hope that Netflix picks up for a movie. Congratulations on this great “true” for many of us.

It is difficult to understand why the latter part of your argument could be anyone's conclusion based on her work. She describes living in poverty, but she (interestingly) does not state what she envisions is the source of that life circumstance. The book focuses on her inner life and mind, and on her relationships with her family members.
She does not scourge white people at all she (we) jus have completely different lives when it comes to families who aren’t like us it’s difficult and hard to come to terms that there are people out there who have better lives than us but it’s also not impossible to make it out in the world either
