My current rotation : Saucony triumph 20 - daily Puma deviate nitro 2 - speed / long run Asics noosa tri 16 - daily / speed Mizuno neo vista - long run / race day
I use a two-shoe rotation. Just got the Hoka Mach 6s for easy days. For workouts and races, I use the Brooks Hyperion Max 2s. I am more of a hobby jogger vs fast runner. Plus I run shorter races.
My rotation: Asics Gel Cumulus 26- Daily/Easy runs Nike Invincible 3- Recovery/Long runs Adidas Boston 12- Tempo/Pace runs Asics Superblast 2- Long steady/pace runs Adidas Adios Pro 3- Race day
Interesting selection. Noosa Tri suprises more than Pro3 or Mach 6! I like how you prioritise speed over max cushioned cruising easy miles. Also, not many shoetubers have as precise a rotation as this or let us on their actual rotation!
My rotation: Asics Gel Nimbus 25 - Easy/Recovery Novablast 4 - Easy/Long runs Brooks Hyperion Max 2 and Speed3 - Tempo/Intervals New Balance SC Elite v3 - Race and some Long runs
How did it do on the dirt. I have a mild non technical trail marathon coming up in 6 weeks and am debating between the Hyperion max 2 or the caldera 7.
Hope they are at least half as good as you say. Opted to give these a try for shorter daily runs and reps as I have got frustrated waiting for the lack of any update on the UK release of the Topo Specter 2. Really needed to add some new shoes to my rotation and should receive these along with the Sky Paris this week.
I loved the 13 had a good heel strike toe roll to them, 14 felt a bit more mid foot, 15 didnt even bother as they falttened the toe rocker. 16 brough back the toe rocker but lowered the drop so still a bit mid-footy. They might work for my heel strike if i can slice up a piece of PEBA and stick it under the insole.
like the noosa tri 15 just for walking lol, for me kinda "hard" looking forward for the 16 on a big sale. cause love the novablast 4, same foam on the 16. and to be honest, dayum these shoes look sexy
thank god, all those high drop shoes force you heel first into the ground, even if i don't want to! Disgusting! Therefore, I love the road to trail shoes Hoka Speedgoat 5 and Asics Fuji Lite 4, since they have a lower drop (something around 5mm). The Noosa Tri 15 I also have, but too hard for me after like 6-7km faster pace on the road. I believe this is because it has the "old" Flyte Foam, not Blast, Blast+, Blast+ Eco or the Superfoams. Now the Noosa's got the FF Blast+, which should be way better :)
No feeling of negative drop, no. 5 is a good sweet spot really for me… the rocker also rolls you through the stride nicely so that negates the smaller drop I find
Bought a pair, thanks to your first review. I did 10 miles at 10min/mile straight out of the box. Brilliant shoes for my GNR in 4 weeks. Size 13UK 14US 49EU. I am 6'4" tall and 95kgs weight. Ideal for a big guy.
I've currently got the Hyperion Max with around 50 miles on and they're getting better with every run. I often run up the FOD myself but I've never tried with it these shoes (use my trailfly Ultra G 280 for that). I heard if you want that max feel you're better off with the standard Hyperion 2 than the Max 2?
Awesome! So the max 2 has a plate in it and feels much more “max stack” that the original max… the hyperion 2 is more similar to the original max… no plate and slightly lower stack, fast and nimble apparently
Good review and update. You definitely need to try the Hyperion 2, it’s like a better og Hyperion Max! From how much you liked the Max you’ll love the new Hyperion 2
It’s plated but with nylon like the Endorphin Speed and Takumi Sen with its rods. So while stiff, still less so than those with a carbon plate--isn’t that the case?
Hi Andy, it looks like Hyperion 2 (non-Max) is now the improved version (added stack, improved foam) of Hyperion Max 1 which you liked. You might consider that as your non-plated shoe.
Interesting, I think Adidas have fluked the 2 blends of foam for the sl2, the feel/cushioning does feel great but the other parts of the shoe, insole, laces and lack of depth are below par. I ripped mine out last night too, haven't tested them yet as I'm playing around with the superblast 2.
do you pronate (under, over)? the issue with some other known runners on youtube, it lacks stability. It will not even support your landing if you pronate.
On the right foot I do slightly yes.... my right side is a bit weaker than the left... I have had previous adidas shoes like the takumi sen 9 where my right ankle was just collapsing in after 100 miles.... no sensation of that yet in this shoe but time will tell
I tried taking the insoles out of some Bostons few years ago for similar sizing reasons. Felt rather odd and I gave up on that. And yeah running on the strobel is why shoes come with insoles !
