I heard this song for the very first time today (04/27/2024) at the WSMA State site at UW-Platteville while waiting my son's percusion ensemble to perform. I was BLOWN AWAY, this song is a masterpiece. It is almost a Chill/Deep House song. And kudos to I believe Middleton High School in Wisconsin for your performance. I still have chills thinking about it. Not taking anything away from my son, he scored three 1s and a 2 (for his percussion ensemble but the bar was set way high as they followed Middleton) but this song and their performance was the hightlight of my day.
This piece is incredible, when I first began playing it it was just another solo. But just after I first performed it, my uncle was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. So now it is a reminder that even when facing terminal illness, he can smile and make jokes, meaning I too can stay strong and upbeat in my hardships.
You gotta quit it with the singing in percussion pieces lmao, some of the most talented percussionists are still not great singers lol (it wasn’t actually that bad, but point still stands). The rest is sooo cool though I love it!
blows my mind that this piece is now 10 years old. it was a pleasure having the opportunity to audition in front of you back in January, Ivan! here’s to the next 10 years of this piece!
This is a new favorite piece of mine! I have a hard time focusing when I begin to learn new pieces, and I was able to dive right into this piece as soon as I got it. Not to mention the meaning behind it, very meaningful poem! Thank you for creating such amazing works!
IVAN, ESCREVE UM SOLO DE MARIMBA PRA MIM....BEM DIFICIL E LINDO, COM 4 MOVIMENTOS.....TIPO UM DESAFIO JAMAIS VISTO QUE AGRADE OS ACADEMICOS E O PUBLICO LEIGO
I need percussion only jazz music - not just drums, stuff like this. Bring in steel pans and ranak ek, kalimba etc... Just start jamming with percussion musicians from around the world...
I played this song when I was secondary 3, I was in charge of marimba 1. Although this song is hard, the process is still good and I enjoyed a lot✨Catching shadow is a masterpiece.
My teachers did this at my percussion ensemble. Words could not describe how happy I was. He’s getting moved up and he has to move to San Antonio for his upper management. In other words, he got promoted and his new promotion place is in San Antonio. This specific song will make me remember all of those happy memories of beginner band, to wind ensemble. If you’re seeing this Mr. Land, just know that you were the best percussionist teacher ever. I hope we can play Mario kart again sometime <3 -Noah C.
dude they played this duet at my percussion concert last year and someone did a strive to be happy solo. I love your work Ivan and I think it's pretty clear my school does too. Please make more art and inspire more!! Also this duet and strive to be happy are my favs rn
Man, they play this piece so damn fast, just amazing. I have a high school group playing it cleanly about 75% of this speed and I’m content with that. I can’t see us going a whole lot faster when we perform it.
I’m in my junior year of HS, playing marimba 1 in this ensemble for district comp in a few weeks. I love this piece so much, it’s definitely my favorite ensemble piece!
Played this piece four years ago today for a talent show. Legendary. My most favorite and nostalgic piece. This crew performed it amazingly. Can’t even begin to think of how many times I’ve listened and watched this video.
Bravo! Thank you for writing a cool piece. Having done less prestigious recordings for marimba duos (Octobones, Book of Grooves, and a commission, Shuey Brew), how many takes did it take? I spent three hours once on a marimba duo recording. Fake representation, but sells the piece.
Great piece, but you should consider altering the title slightly to avoid confusion with the classic Led Zeppelin song. Maybe "Song of The Immigrant", or "Song For An Immigrant".
