im a little new to opening mtg cards sorta kinda. is there a specific reason this bundle is a bit more than the other bundles? i seen these at target for like $77 or so compared to outlaw and manor ones that were $40 something or so.
Modern Series have many many more great cards than regular new expansions, such as Outlaw. Those great cards are already proven in many tournaments. Each new expansion, such as Outlaw, bring new cards, and people immediately try them out in different formats ( standard, modern, pioneer, commander ). Some prove to have massive impact on modern. New expansions have a limited print run, as newer expansions appear. So the great cards in the most recent expansion will soon not be printed anymore in their expansions. However, the demand is so high, that WOTC decides to print them in succeeding expansions .. or in the next Modern Series, such as Modern Horizons 3. So that's why Modern Series cost much more - so many cards that are already proven to be great in big tournaments, whereas the cards in new expansions contain far fewer good cards, and they still have to be tried.
Basically it comes down to power level, and the set has been out only two weeks-ish and people need entire playsets of the best cards. Cards are getting bought up as quickly as they are listed. Opening mh3 is currently still basically free money but the value WILL drop.
Congrats! Sometimes the one hit pack is all you need. My play booster box will come out Friday, there you'll see 36 full packs. Some valued over 60 bucks, others valued under 5. Gives the full spectrum
I pulled the extended art Ulamog (or whatever that treatment is called), a foil Urzas incubator, a extended art foil bloodstained mire, a extended art Ugins Labyrinth, Also managed to get full art foil Rhonas Fanatic and a retro frame flare of fortitude, a retro frame foil and non-foil Warren Soul Trader. Lastly I got a retro frame foil priest of titania. That was from 5 packs.
I just cracked my second, will post the opening and analysis on Monday. At today's market prices it was another great box. I'll be curious to see if the prices hold through the weekend
Thanks P. E. It was a lot of fun to experience. I've got a few more, but have to shift into more pre-release kits, bundles and a play box before I roll back to the CB. But delaying the next box will allow me to trend the set.
Have gotten an Elesh of some kind in each box so far. Even the concept praetor one (from a prerelease bundle - surprised you could pull those from draft boosters). So I have an elesh collection of sorts now..
@@MTGBoxAnalysis The absolute knockout collector booster had a concept vorinclex followed by a foil concept elesh. I have never once opened an urabrask though. sucker doesn't exist lol

@MTGBoxAnalysis there's been a lot of leaks about it since april, i think. The commanders have been revealed, too. Also, there's an expensive token bundle, which i hope is not true because it's sounds like mind conditioning so they can jack up the price. It may sound bad, but i hope assasins Creed flops hard. Since blum burrow is pretty much just waiting for the market release. This could force WOTC to keep the price cheaper. Because dang nh3 is pain in the wallet, and we don't want to uptrend to continue further.

In a lot of cases, yes. I use TCG Player "market pricing". This number is calculated based on real world sales in their platform. If three cards sell, one for $3, one for $5 and one for $7, then the market price is $5. The average of the sales. There's much more to the math, but that's the general gist. Some cards are in high demand and sell for market price or more. This drives up the market price. Other cards are either cooling off or are plentiful. When that happens, people lower their prices to raise capital for the next thing. Because I don't need to sell every card I have as soon as I list it, I target the market value and then wait. If someone buys it great. If they don't, then the market price is likely falling and thus I am over priced, so I'll adjust again. Quite often I just leave the cards at the market price on the day I list it, if all the lower priced cards sell and mine becomes the cheapest. Then a buyer's only option is to buy mine for more than the market. If they do, the market price moves up.
Oh no. Sorry to hear that drewoid. I know that several of my packs were duds. This is why I advocate for a full box, it offers a more consistent value proposition.
You can truly open one of these boxes and you'll be pretty sweet if your starting out in MTG. Wish I had the cash to pick up one of these boxes. KEEP STAYING PAWZITIVE BRO 👍
Oh yeah, this is a great way to buy your way into commander without a lot of risk. I wish I could have purchased more than 3 when I did, because they were sub $250
Such consistent value. The henge put you over the edge, but you don’t see too many boxes that fail to hit around the break even mark. The medallions used to be a more sure value, but MH3 is going to beat them into the ground.
Yeah it's a shame that the medallions are in mh3, just going to reprint the value into the ground on those. I agree with you on the Commander Masters, most set boxes are break even or slightly above. It's just a powerhouse set, the only thing that can hurt it is reprints.

Thanks MrNeel. I'm split. The new shiny borderless cards (not just medallions) are awesome and look really great. But I'd also be proud to smack down an original medallion from Tempest. Would I feel anything putting out a Command Masters version vs a Modern Horizon 3, nope, those cards have the sale "feel" to me. So in my eyes, it's either original or newest, the stuff in the middle is fine but I'm not connected to it.
I know its more work, but it would be interesting to see some pack specific information like average pack value, lowest pack value, highest pack value, odds of a pack having more than the retail price worth of cards. Some sets seem to have almost no duds where others are mostly duds.
Thanks for the suggestion. I generally do not inventory by pack, but rather by box. But I'll see if there's something I can't put together. Don't look for anything this week. I've already filmed everything, just finishing the edits. But maybe next week.

I think the designers have three options when looking to expand. They can either come up with new mechanics, remix abilities of prior cards, or increase the power level of new cards.

I think that's a good strategy. I just cracked a commander masters set box, it'll be today's box. Maybe I'll compare it to my first play box of MH3 next Wednesday. To see how they stack up.
