Didn't miss a minute of this back in the Nineties, but looking back at those clunky boxy computers almost makes me cringe! And not a Smartphone in sight.......
mid 90s i was watching this in my family home, eagerly waiting to move out and start my own life. The spirit of the series made young urban life seem so exciting.
Even watching in 2024 still is great 👍 This BBC television 📺 series is on my list of 14 all time best television series.my favourite character was Anna😊
Miles going out with Delilah in series one is the weirdest plot. It's ridiculous - she sits around the house all day, robs them blind and gets pissed with her crackhead mates in their living room. That Miles is supposed to be an incisive, intelligent lawyer but can't tell he's shacked up with an obvious bulldog-faced skank makes me question the entire capability of the British legal system. She has a duster-wearing pimp boyfriend who picks her up in a battered XR3i for God's sake. Bah!
Public smoking, no internet, texting or sexting or wetherspoons, John Major in power, offices full of paper, Diana still alive, David and Victoria Beckham and Jamie Oliver never heard of, curtains hairstyles, no hair straighteners or prosecco. Noel's House Party, Richard and Judy and Pebble Mill on TV. Jimmy Saville and Rolf Harris were deemed decent fellas. Ah those were the days.
Apparently, she claimed ageism in the industry for women. I always wondered as well, especially coming off the back of her fantastic performance as Anna. She appeared in a few high profile things afterwards(Reckless, Big Women and the film "Tube Tales").
TV series were just a job for actors and actresses back then. Lots of the older acting pros in modern day serials have been in countless TV serials since the 1980s and never became celebs.
The souls-are-like-leaves-on-a-tree part has stuck with me all these years. Love this show. To me, the way it was filmed, the grittiness, honesty, and heart, made shows like Shameless possible.
London flat shares in the 1990s with professionals or otherwise were an absolute nightmare. Take it from me, I did it. Uptight professionals, shallow sharons, weirdo foreigners etc it was bad.
