My father is Rodriquez Williams. Byrnes was doing an excellent job, just like dad said, David beat Goliath. Byrnes and Gaffneybdid well, and if there’s one thing dad told me about, it’s having good sportsmanship like the players did back in the past
I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Davis and went to school with his son Stephen Davis Jr. At Dutch Fork Highschool. His dad was a good running back for sure
Another fun fact. I have played with him and against him. He was the tallest QB in pee wee football back then. He was a beast but cool as hell in person.
I think the whole town showed up for this one. As you can see after halftime we travel well too. I didn't arrive in the stadium until halftime. So many memories.
YES!!! I was at this game. We were ranked #1 and y'all was #2 in the state at this point of the season . We ended up losing to Spartanburg in the state championship though.
Malcolm long man form sc state I remember I met him at sc state when he was there my family is from orangeburg sc and they went to sc state Malcolm long made some history at sc state
30:50. That ref knew what happened and heard something he didn't like so he took his hat off to represent another foul. Greenwood was losing and got mad so. I agree with that ref. That was targeting.
I remember around 1997 or 98 we had to go to Gaffney for a regular season. We was #1 in the state that time and they were #2. I didn't get into the stadium until around halftime. I believe that whole town shut down to see that one. It was PACKED. We came back from a 12-0 deficit but scored 24 unanswered to beat them 24-19. It was HARD getting out of the stadium after that 😆😆😆.
If you had the chance to play at this stadium and experience hearing the fight song and then they come out through the smoke was INTIMIDATING!!! Then when they do the tomahawk, you look up at the home side and see a sea of arms just swinging in unison and getting crunk at the same time??? You definitely better have your psyche in control because you will lose focus playing against them 😂😂😂.
I miss when high school football was like this in SC. I can tell that the atmosphere of this game was incredible!!! I from the original era of region 2 4A. You had Gaffney, Dorman, Spartanburg, Union, Northwestern and Rock Hill. All were perennial powerhouses between 1990 and at least until 2010 when the millennials didn't celebrate football like those schools did when I was playing. I'm a bearcat and I cherish these videos because it brings back good memories. Every region game was a rivalry in some way. And I do respect that Gaffney has a reputation of being the most intimidating opponent in that era. When you hear the band playing their fight song in your stadium, you know you was about to be in a dogfight. 😂
EXACTLY what I was looking for. I knew the Trojans didn't look like i remember. I was 6 years old when this played. Im a bearcat/stallion. You are reliving HISTORY for me. I love high school football back in that day. i don't care if we are rivals, KEEP IT UP!!! I MISS THOSE DAYS
Aye. I remember hearing about that game. Seeing how many people was out there wanted me to come see it myself. I'm next door to Gaffney so I know the history of the reservation. You have got to be good to beat the Indians down there. We were the lucky ones that did and ESCAPED 😅😅😂
I believe the whole city of Gaffney drove down to see that one. I'm from York county so I know how big high school football was back in them days. SMDH I miss that atmosphere.
The famed "toilet water dump." Every time I ever went there and sat on the visitor side the homers flooded the toilets with paper. The overflow would run out of the restroom and into the walkway where the people had to walk to get to the stands. Real class at that place.
