There are a couple of major flaws in this approach, flaws of evidence leading to flaws in policy, politics, and in the end, flaws in the model of sustainability. Almost everyone with "progressive" values has the same flaws of not being evidence based, so it's hard to find alternative sources. First, the video omits the biggest pot of money, that of market failure impacts, and sees only government spending, which compensates for the market failures. So what's ignored is, first, that farm markets chronically fail to balance supply and demand and provide fair prices, and this happens on both the supply and demand sides. It's called price inelasticity or "lack of price responsiveness." Also ignored is that that was fixed, and can be fixed, with adequate market management policies and programs, (not considered here,) as we had in the US 1942-1952. The programs involve both minimum farm price floors for various farm products and supply reductions, as needed to balance supply and demand at the higher price levels. The program price floor levels were reduced, 1953-1995, and then almost all were ended, lowering farm prices. Another major myth is that the programs were subsidy programs. No, subsidies weren't started until after years of price floor/price reductions, not until 1961 for corn, grain sorghum and wheat, 1962 for barely, 1964 for cotton, 1977 for rice, 1982, (30 years later,) for oats, 1998 for soybeans. The subsidies did not cause the cheap prices, as numerous studies have shown, and the subsidies were never were close to being big enough to compensate for the massive reductions, (with net farm income [including subsidies] rarely coming close to 1942-1952 levels, even with greatly increased yields). So the full evidence clearly shows that farms growing crops like corn (maize) got less and less with subsidies (& price reductions,) not more and more, as shown here. Another major category of myth follows from this: that the interests of all of these farmers receiving subsidies are the opposite of those of the agribusiness buyers. Here they're all thrown together as if they had shared interests. All of this has caused MOST farmers in the US (across the major crop farming regions) to lose ALL value added livestock and poultry to the animal factories (CAFOs) that THEY, (not taxpayers,) subsidize, to then lose grass pastures, hay fields, and nurse crops like oats, (i.e. diversity and sustainability). You can't fix something caused by penalization by further penalization, as is implied here. The real solution, (omitted here,) is to restore adequate price floor programs (with adequate fair trade programs to do it all internationally). Supply reductions must be done in ways that reward or credit diverse farmers, and that bring livestock/poultry back out of CAFOs. Then farmers no longer subsidize CAFOs. This is supported by La Via Campesina, the Africa Group at WTO, and the authentic farm groups of the US, as I've shown. (See my farm policy videos for the evidence.)
Cardinal Tagle. What is so Catholic about the Amazon synod?why are you supporting a heretical synod???? Mother earth is not divine! Why dont u teach that Jesus is God and should be prayed to by the amazonian people? Not their weird gods...
