Proper marching bands, not like the pathetic excuse for bands rolled out to commemorate the Easter Rising or other republican ceremonies that celebrate murderers.
After uni I hope to pass out of Sandhurst, and join the regiment of the royal engineers! I've been inspired by the army cadet force, mainly because we are based on a Royal Engineer training base Soo we train with them all the time
Section Red No1Have to agree with you there Jimbo. Great sound off them. I don't know what type they're using now. But the don't sound as good. They sound more bass like and deeper. To me anyway...
Robert Anderson in this clip rab theyre using premier 97 s with a top and bottom snare its classed as a military drum,,,but they changed to the premier with just the bottom snare only,, I dont like tfat sound but a lot of bands that go down the melody route like that sound.
That's right Jim. You can hear the difference. My drum had a top and bottom snare. I thought most side drums did. But I know what your talking about with the melody flute bands. Their drums always sound very deep.
The tune comes from an old Gaelic war song called 'Rosc Catha na Mumhan' written by Piaras Mac Gearailt in 1792. Loyalists have better flute bands but Republicans have better folk bands so their message gets across more hearing the lyrics rather than hearing a flute play the notes.
I don't think this tune in any way resembles 'come out ye black and tans'. I think you need to visit the wolftones site to get a correct reading on that.
