That’s wild using a fast action rod designed for flipping and pitching for a crankbait. Seems like they’d pull or shake off a lot more. Todd’s been using that bait religiously for many years so he should know.
@@KingsofBassTV I like a parabolic rod on anything with trebles. But who’s to argue with the guy who’s probably caught more bass on it than anyone. I’ve been subbed to his channel for a long time.
@@KingsofBassTV Yup. When Todd first dropped that tidbit it changed things for me when I threw it. You really gotta think of it as a Jerkbait, shallow plug, wakebait, swimjig, a hunting lipless, etc., or you can just call it a hybrid hunter to make things easy and not muddy the water. I have one tied on always. Own every color available in both sizes shallows and regulars. Gotta keep an open mind with that bait and you’ll be happily surprised when you do. Can y’all tell yet how much I love that bait lol!
@@KingsofBassTV Can i ask you honestly? if my reel's drag is 18lbs max then why would i ever use line heavier than about 20 lb test since the drag will give out before the line will?
Todd caught a double digit on my home lake on that bait. I still haven’t tried it. It seems to have a similar action of the old wooden Strike King Spence Scout which I do use. Caught my first 6 1/2 lb bass on one in the early 70s when I was a kid bank fishing on a cold January day. Before we had the Florida strain bass. 13 lbs was the Texas state record back then. Small by today’s standards after the Floridas were introduced.
@@KingsofBassTV Always love a good hybrid hunter video. Absolutely love that bait. As long as a guy/gal keeps an open mind with that bait tied on, they’re good as gold. 🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣
Of course as a budget guy i can only get 2, tried the 8 and it wouldn't dive at any speed, Gonna try the 10 next time out and see if it'll run like it's supposed to. Happened to me with the chick magnet, one is a fishing catcher and other won't dive. Act like a wake baits even at slow speed
Okay. I was going to stay quiet but this isn’t the first time. Here at kings of BASS we fans want BASS fishing, we don’t care about these saltwater tips and tricks. We want to hear from the elite top level guys how tf they are catching them. We didn’t subscribe to kings of BASS for marlin tips.
I only have a 7ft medium heavy fast action and a 7.5:1 spooled with 15lb fluoro and dont use anything for me atleast this for must lures that arent topwater style lures because most of the ponds lakes around me dont have many areas with thick vegetation. The reel is a lews speed spool lfs and i love the rod reel combo. Would you Mr. Hackney ever use this style setup for swim jigs and flipping pitching in certain areas where vegetation may be thinned out or not very thick even in the spring/summer/early fall.
Sorry, but I’m calling BS on any claim that those double trouble hooks can go through grass and not snag or pull up grass with the lure. Notice how the underwater photography here showed the lure bouncing off of rocks and logs, but did not show this crankbait going through grass. The reason is because it would have lots of vegetation stuck to the hook, contrary of the claim in this video. If this truly could work effectively without snagging or grabbing vegetation through a grass bed, they certainly would’ve shown it, but they very clearly did not. Exposed hooks will snag vegetation. The bill isn’t going to prevent that from happening. When I throw a Panther Martin into a weeded area of a trout stream, it comes back with foot-long green streamers attached to the treble hook and the blade does act to deflect the bottom from the hook to some extent. It is well known that the blade spinning directly on the spinner shaft of a Panther Martin results in fewer snags then other spinners like a Rooster Tail or Mepps that has the blade spinning on a separate wire loop. If a Panther Martin‘s spinning blade can’t deflect grass then I don’t see how a solid bill that does not fully block the two hooks behind it can either.
I used the Hyburd Hunter Jr. In the Red craw color. Caught 13 largies. Before the spawn in 4ft of water. 3 females or 4 pds. Everyone of the males over 2 pds. Never have I caught so many big males. The females were full of eggs. No matter what color I use. This bait is awesome. It just produces! Thats all. I crank then let it float to the top. Then 2 to cranks. Stop. Until I catch one. Then I know the Candace. That works. I am 63. This year I decided. Not to buy anymore cranks. But Todd comviced me to try one more bait. Up till now. The Strike King 1.5 squarebill in Sexy Shad color. Has out produced any other crank. In the last 5 years. I have caught hundreds of bass on that bait. Put both baits to the test. 6 to one Quantum Smoke S3 PT Baitcaster. 30 pd Suffix braid in Green moss color on a Hank Parker MH FAST action baitcaster rod. I got to tell you The Hybird Hunter Jr. stayed with the StrikeKing 1.5 squarebill. Cast for cast. I fish ponds. No boat. I fish both the exact sametime amount during a nice spring day. It was a great challenge. Really had fun. Testing what these Pro's say! Next to a Senko or Chatterbait or even a Double Williow bladed StrikeKing Spinnerbait. This baits just flat out produces.. Give them a try. Next time out fishing. Shawn
These things are very expensive. I would love be to have 2 of these one for me and one for my wife. Can you tell us why all the rods and reels and lures are so expensive? Anyway thanks you’re the man to most of your fans. The baits I get from Temu tear up too easy. Lol
I used to be a stickler on shimano. Now because of Lews equipment being so DAMm good, ill never go back to shimano. Absolutely the best for the buck and its made in the USA.
The only current spinning reel Lew's sells that fits most rods well is the Hypermag. The Custom Lite, Custom Lite SS and Custom Pro all have an issue with the foot being too big for most spinning rods. It's a little disappointing to see the Custom Lite and Lite SS barely fit the reel seat on the new Custom Lite rod. You'd think they'd be a perfect fit since they share a name, but no.
That place is freakin awesome man... I had access to a couple really big private ponds in the Louisiana Texas area that had legit 9 and 10lb bass in them. I grew up fishing them and about 2 years ago I got to go fish one of them again some 25 years later and it was like being a kid all over again. I don't think any of us ever lose that kid side that wants to do things like this... LOL Great video as always keepem coming guys!!!
I personally like David Dudley's Perfection Shakey head. I've tried just about every jig manufacturer's jig head. Perfection heads draws more strikes I have found because they stand up better than anybody elses.
