Tablets are indeed useful. Mine saved my neck once. I didn't know I have a misprinted copy of one of the D&D 3.5 books until I went to look for the stats of a specific monster and couldn't find it! Fortunately I had a PDF copy so all went well.

There are dice makers out there that have been making some incredibly beautiful looking dice in these past few years. But because they're not made in an industrial scale, they tend to be veeeery expensive. I haven't seen any made for those games that require (or at least _suggest_) custom dice, however, but it would be cool to see some of those. Well, there are handcrafted dice for Vampire 5E, and there may be for other WOD games... I myself would want those, but I'm happy with nice, easy to read standard dice. That said, though, I'm very tempted to go buy some more right now...

Hello from one Ivan to another! I really love your channel. I went through all of your "Game Design is Hard" playlist and you had some of the most interesting insights about dice I've ever heard anyone make. I've tried my hand at game design and those videos really got me thinking about which dice systems I want. Then I went through your other stuff, and you almost always have an interesting and insightful take to share. I know you don't get a ton of views, but I wanted you to know that I actually think your stuff is head and shoulders above a lot of more popular TTRPG content creators, because there's a depth to what you have to say that I don't always get from bigger names. Keep it coming! :D

It's fun when npcs take on a "life" of their own. I had one in a vampire game who I thought would be a thorn in the side of the characters, but they took a shine to him and eventually befriended him. I would think why would you like this guy ? he's kinda an ass, but PCs do what you least expect.

Rope is always useful not matter the era your playing in, there's always some kind of rope. As far as weapons I really like wrestling, so I always use a lasso, bolas or a net. I guess if there's a way to play a cowboy in a rpg thats probably the kind of character I'm going to play no matter what kind of abilities I end up with.

That's an interesting take on that prompt! Dice rolls don't work well with luck-impaired people like me, so I'd say give me 2-3 points from a resource that I can spend per game session for those eventualities. The GM might even rule out that more powerful stuff could cost more points!

Super late here..but didn't have time to formulate...I think you are completely correct in the context you are discussing. Most of the time I hear people discuss it being more swinging..it's very specifically in the context of substituting d20 rolls for 3d6 rolls in games using the same modifier and targets. They feel that characters that are very competent still fail easy to medium tasks far too often...and feel these "average" tasks shouldn't be failing as often (hence the d20 feels more swingy) For example, in a D&D style game if you use a target DC 10 for easy, someone with a +3 stat modifier and +3 skill bonus..aka pretty competent...will fail the easy task about 15% of the time vs only 1 percent with 3d6 and a moderate 40% of the time with a d20 vs 26% with 3d6. This carries through a lot of systems with targets. If you look at a classic roll under stat type mechanic in D&D you see much of the same..but it's even more exaggerated. Now..do hard and extreme tasks in these cases become even HARDER with 3d6..yes..but I think what people who make the swingy argument I've heard aren't talking about hard to epic tasks..but ones they try more regularly. As you stated if the number matters..but not in the way you stated..it's not because of degrees of success or narrative value..it's be cause the target number is set..but skill/stat bonuses of +1, +2, +3 etc...have far different values of bonus/penalty in 3d6 vs 1d20 for each potential target number.

I don't want any rpg to be seen in tv. It attracts people who are really not into hobby, casuals and ends in commercialization of the product. Last one mentioned changes it to be point it becomes for everyone. Back in the days I just bought WFRP, not knowing how to play, I've read it twice and started running sessions. Once again. I bought WFRP not knowing anything about rpgs and became a GM. There's nothing hard in int. If you lack imagination maybe rpgs are not for you in the first place. There is no need to lower the barrier of entry. Those who will be interested in gaming will play, the rest - people who shouldn't play - won't notice it and consider it something weird. Some people complain that it was much better in the old days. Well. Rpgs were not so well known, so it didn't attract unwanted individuals, who will defend orc, or remove Attributes modification for dwarves or elves if you catch my drift. Modern day "White Wolf" is not the White WOlf it used to be. Vampire: the Masquerade, a game about becoming a monster that looses his humanity is now being advertised by rainbow clan pins. R'ly? R'ly? "Everyone's welcome!" No. Not everyone. I play only with those people I like and consider worthy to run games for. If someone has a bigger potential to play basketball I will suggest developing his talent in that sport, rather than in rpgs.

Dildo gun. There was this game Redneck Rampage where you had an alien brests weapon. A dildo machine gun would also be lit. You just aim at your enemies' mouths and start shootin', while weapon screams: SHUT UP! SHUT UP! with each single shot. Yeah. Sometimes my mind plays trick on me and players would have hard time playing an abstract and avant-garde adventure. In real life it could easily tame rules lawyers.

In the 80's my friend had one for his dice. I thought it was cool and unique and didn't even know it was a liquor, till he explained he got it from his parents. It's odd that it became sort of and unofficial dice bag. I had even made a video about it being a Dice bag with liquor included.

Separating us from them help you get the team of players you want to play games with. Imagine that you are gathering people for a tennis, while some of the people will be rugby players. Do you really want rugby players in your team? No. You exclude people and pick only those you will be at home with, when it comes to storytelling, combat, time of play etc. A GM who runs free form games won't feel good with a rules lawyer and vice versa. Now. All one need to do is to understand that his way is his way and maybe few other people only. But doing that requires something more than being an rpg hobbyist. Not everyone os capable of doing so. I was attacked numerous times for my approach to WFRP. For me original IS the Warhammer. Rest is just an "official" modification of rules, that mas made and release by a team of not original game designers. And all those mods can by easily oincorporated to my "1e" Warhammer book by myself. Is there any need for me to buy yet another rule book? No. But I was called names for not buying books I don't need. Sometimes having rules that were invented by my peers 30 years ago, but recently added to 4th edition. Wow. Just wow. In other words, if someone doesn't get the idea that my way of playing is what suits my, and what I am saying is a pure description of how I do things it is his problem not mine. Many people just feel attacked or threatened by statements of different ideas. Youare either grown up human being or not. PS. What is a role playing game? Well, name speaks for itself. It's a game about ROLE PLAYING a certain character. What opart of ROLE PLAYING isn't clear? ;) End of discussion. That's why I am strongly against modern shorthand ttrpg. It's rpg vs crpg (computer rpg). In latter cases there's no role playing in it. Plain and simple. The best solutions are always the simplest ones.

I agree. As much as I always despised its ludicrous rules, the B&W art in AD&D 2nd PHB was the one thing that made me run it. Literally. Everyone was playing WFRP in Poland in the 90's and it still holds strong here, as it is more relalistic when it comes to renaissance times. Saying it holds strong is like saying nothing at all. It is a KVLT game here. Bad word about Warhammer is a blasphemy. Hahaha! PS. Still best art RPG is Vampire: the Masquerade 2nd Edition.
