A landing is SUPPOSED to be firm, you do not want a smooth landing and here's why. 1. It wastes too much time! Trying to land smooth like that can result in the plane floating down the runway which can result in a Go Around. 2. It can result in extra speeds and improper technique. When the pilot lands, they don't want to do it VERY smoothly because you have all this excess speed, you want a firm but not hard landing so you don't have so much excess speed and you can stop within the amount of runway you have.
Guys they do it for your safety. Because: if u try to land smoothly, there js a chance of the plane floating and will result in a go around or a overrun Hard landing: u get on the ground immediately and stop ASAP without overruning.
The reason A330s always butter is because the back gear is tilted very much, resulting it in taking a lot of time to bring it fully down. So actually A330 pilots are FORCED to butter
