Welcome to Home with Sarah Jane! I'm Sarah Jane, an introverted, book loving, homeschooling mom of two girls ages 12 and 15. I created this channel to share about all things from homeschooling to homemaking. We have been homeschooling since the very beginning and I just wanted to share about our journey. I post videos on Tuesdays and Thursdays!
Hey! Thanks for sharing. I have a seasonal/holiday binder as well. Actually 2. One is just like yours with homeschool stuff or stuff for the kids and the other one has my planning stuff. Like recipes and menu plans for the holidays, gift buying budget and idea sheets. I'm happy to see I'm not the only one. LOL
We don’t car school, but this has got me thinking I need to do something similar for my granddaughter for trips! I’ve never seen a car organizer. I’m sure we can find some things to keep her busy and happy.
These do work really well for younger kids while traveling. When my kids were younger, we would put things like car BINGO, coloring books, and small single-player games in them... we even had a small magnetic checker board for when the kids sat sided by side.
We temporarily went back to The Good & the Beautiful History, and then we focused on Gather Round history units for a while, and now we are currently using Guest Hollow, and we LOVE Guest Hollow.
I love how in touch you are with your girls. You're doing a great job. I haven't done any schooling in over five years, but I never miss watching your channel. Blessings to you and your family.
In our state, if teens are between 15.5 and 17.5 years of age, they have to take a 30-hour class (online or in-person) in order to get a learner's permit. Once they get a learner's permit, then they have to drive a certain amount of hours supervised if they are still minors.
Yes, I did print LA Level 6 and Math 7. I did purchase the LA Level 6 reader, though. I haven't noticed any issues so far, and I like that I was able to break up the language arts course book into quarters instead of one big book.
I, surprisingly, didn’t need much this year so this will probably sound silly to be excited about but I finally got a PLUG IN electric pencil sharpener 😂😂😂. Also, it may not be considered part of a “school haul” but my kiddos do bowling as their “sport” and we got them their own bowling balls and bags this year! 🎉
I would definitely consider their bowling balls and bags homeschool supplies! I love school supplies, so when I got our electric pencil sharpener, I was excited too 😆.
@@homewithsarahjane it's actually hard to forget about something that you need or something that's been out there for quite some time you can easily forget about it! I think it's helpful that they come in white and multicolored!
I've been using my binding machine for the past 8 years. You're right, I guess I just haven't thought of them because I haven't needed them until now 😊 I haven't seen the different colored ones. I'm going to look into those. Thanks!
I still use the hole punch reinforcement circles! 😂 I also buy reinforced paper that is already punched. I found index cards already on rings at five below. I went to five below after watching your last school haul video!😊❤
If youare prepping for SAT Math or AP Biology please free to use to follow this person. She/he is making updated curriculum for both classes: ru-vid.com/show-UCuulJoSyzyMCz5IryAKMMsg
I would recommend shopping in-store when it comes to 5 Below because their shipping is expensive 😵💫. I feel like they have more affordable "cute" school supplies. Thanks for stopping by 🙂.
You are most welcome! I have been listening to your videos for a long time, and hearing about your homeschool and learning styles so when you were sharing you’re curriculum I thought to myself I’ll bet they would probably really love Layers of Learning ❤❤😂 I hope it’s amazing for you!! I was listening to the Layers of Learning podcast episode 67 Sharing the Pen and also episode 30 today while mowing and it really really helped me learn how to help my writers step by step. I’m guilty of telling them to just go write lol. It was very enlightening!
I'm guilty of saying that, too! I've been trying to take time to explore Layers of Learning methods and understand how to use this curriculum in the best way for us. So far, no regrets! 😀
If you find that you don’t love jump in or want to supplement, then I would highly highly recommend Layers of Learning Writers Workshop. Sarah Mackenzie recommended it for struggling writers and creative kids and my oh my it has transformed our homeschool! It includes grammar concepts and has a spelling add on. It’s so out of the box and easy and fun! Good luck! I have a sweet Lydia as well! Love that name!
@@homewithsarahjane Not gonna lie we have adopted the entire Layers of Learning program this year for the Unit study hands on approach while pulling books from our existing Sonlight levels and I am on homeschool cloud nine this year! I actually planned a whole web of programs for months then started school after the Fourth of July. Two days into the new year I immediately pitched everything I had planned. It was working but it was lifeless. I felt like it was just a bunch of programs we needed to get done, I was being pulled in too many directions, there was a lack of excitement and interest and I was bored. I feverishly started from scratch trying to come up with a better solution quickly. After much searching I came across Layers of Learning again and they had redone the units and it’s was immediately a wonderful fit!! Their podcasts and Facebook group are very helpful. Some moms on the Facebook group recommended a week per unit instead of a subject a day or many subjects a day and it’s been magical. This week one thing we did was mummify a hotdog and my kids were giggling like crazy! We are doing a week of the history unit, a week of the science unit and a week of the geography unit then moving on to the next topic. I finally feel like it’s fun and creative, we can dig in as much as we want in that week, I am able to focus and really make it fun with a single topic. I also feel I can make it relevant and age appropriate for my teen as well who really loves being a part of family school. I feel like I can breathe, everything is getting covered but with how we learn best good books and unit studies. And we get done with the month unit in three weeks instead of a month!! We also are doing writers workshop as a family and everyone is learning all at once. We even made the Big Book of Learning they recommend for review and my kids are loving the trivia style review. It’s just a wonderful feeling when everyone is happy and we are in “that” flow.
@LearningPlantingGrowing it sounds like we have a similar homeschool style 😃!! When we first started homeschooling (what feels like a million years ago) not much was available, and I was piecing everything together and taking soooooo much time building what I couldn't find. I did go over to Layers of Learnings website and I do really like the Writers Workshop bundle. I feel like I might like the format and layout better than Jump In! I think I might switch😆.
@@homewithsarahjane I think we have similar styles too! I really enjoy your channel! I don’t ever want to be negative but I and my oldest daughter hated jump in a few years ago. It was just boring to us. I am sure lots of people love it though! But Writers Workshop (I’m sure not for everyone) has brought aha moments and fun and all five of my kids ask to do it even my previously self proclaimed non writers lol. The podcasts and their RU-vid videos really helped me understand how it is a really well thought out Language Arts. Anyway I wanted to let you know about it because the way you describe your homeschool reminds me of ours 😊
I started questioning Jump In once I took the time to really flip through it. I was sooooo sold on it from the online samples. I knew the layout wasn't my favorite, but thought I could get past that if Lydia liked it. When I showed Lydia Jump in, she showed zero interest.I just returned Jump In and ordered Writers Workshop & Word Work 😆.
We are planning to try Guest Hallow this year, but so far it is a big cost between purchasing pdf and All the books. You also mention that you didn’t want to have to piece things together and so far that is all I have done with this one. (Sifting through all of it and trying to decide what we want to use) We have used Notgrass in the past and absolutely loved it. We will be going back to that after this coming school year!
I wanted something more open and go, something I didn't have to put much thought into. My daughters really wanted to try Guest Hollow...so here I am piecing things together 😆. I do have to say that Guest Hollow is looking really amazing. So far, I have been able to get most books used/on sale or at Bookoutlet. I think my oldest will use Notgrass for American history in the following year.
