It is good to see EDI breaking ground in Australia and my hat off to Noel Pearson for recognizing that good teaching and research-based tools have a place in any classroom.
I bet someone was charged a fortune to come up with this system, but I don't see kids learning. I see mandated wankery. "and I have research, this is the best way. Track with me!!"
... you know, most of those students weren't moving their mouths. If you're trying to prove EDI effective, you should probably pick a different video. If you're trying to prove EDI effective at teaching mathematics, you should definitely pick a different video. The lesson concept is the correct pronunciation of "Pythagorean"? Yow.
What will they learn from this? I don't know. The kids all are doing what they're told, but they haven't learned anything because they are just being told it. This is not great teaching.
This is not really learning. There is plenty of research that shows you should give the word after they have seen the concept. So just learning these words is meaningless unless they already understand what they mean. Unfortunately the evidence that is usually cited for this type of instruction is old. Since the 90s PER has amassed a huge amount of evidence in favor of inquiry and active engagement strategies which are missing here.
