A contemporary giant of the piano with a smooth and elegant style. He was underrated and gracious throughout his long and celebrated career. Like dancing on clouds. When I listen to Gene Harris I feel like I'm home.

Billy Gardner, not a pianist I`m familiar with but sounds to have a bit of Red Garland`s block chords and Wynton Kelly swing.

Allmusic Review : Recorded in a simple Standards is about as close as smooth jazz pianist David Benoit has come to the classic post-bop West Coast sound that's always been one of his primary inspirations. Benoit is simply not an adventurous soul as either a bandleader or a pianist, and so Standards consists mostly of familiar songs (John Lewis' "Django," Thelonious Monk's "Straight No Chaser," Bill Evans' "Waltz for Debby," Dave Brubeck's "Blue Rondo à la Turk") given safe, pretty performances that never come close to re-invention. It's simply not in Benoit's nature to take risks, but to a listener on the pianist's mellow wavelength, these performances are both technically excellent and completely heartfelt. The choice of a couple obscurities by Henry Mancini and Neal Hefti adds an idiosyncratic personal touch as well. Bold and audacious it may not be, but Standards is a low-key delight.

Don't talk about my Tom that way! By the way, I found an album that both Jack Sheldon and Chet Baker are both on playing together. It's called The forgotten album. I'll try and figure out how to get it to you. It's a fun album, you know Jack, he's a nut!

Lou Donaldson (born November 1, 1926) is an American retired jazz alto saxophonist. He is best known for his soulful, bluesy approach to playing the alto saxophone, although in his formative years he was heavily influenced by Charlie Parker, as were many during the bebop era.

Very logical sax player. 6 years younger than bird, his lines make sense, and take no risks. He is rooted in the blues, greatly influenced by Bird and Sonny Stitt, while being a contemporary of them.

I'm way late catching up on my Howard Roberts. His playing on this is absolutely Amazing! In fact, All the players on this record are top shelf! I play blues, but I've listened to Wes Montgomery for 60 years and was introduced to Howard Roberts at a high school summer music camp 54 years ago, yet I could never find Howard Roberts Lps in my town. I bought his books on sight reading and studio etiquette...and followed his articles in Guitar Player Mag.. so nice to finally be able to hear these great albums here on RU-vid! Excellent!

Bud Powell... When I first listen to his play, I was 16yrs old and I'm 57 now. He's been the only pianist who makes me cry. I really don't know why I cry. but he always does. Art Tatum is so perfect and obviously more accurate than Bud but I've never "cry" listening Tatum's play. But Bud...I can not listen to his play without tears. This is very very special feeling. He must have been a man with such a "pure soul". I can not think of any other reason why I cry for his music. Bud Powell's soul forever.
