I met the love of my life here in Finland during our Erasmus trip. Neither of us are from Finland but we both fell in love with Finland. Going back here for holiday this weekend for a week, and going to make a wife of my girlfriend on the location we first met.

this day 11 years ago, i '@' my ex on my fb timeline along with a link to video and suggested that we 'counter-urbanise'. he married somebody else, prolly has kids now. i'm based in stockholm, in the last leg of my PhD, experienced similar 4am sun and have swum in water that is freaking cold even in summer. i mean finland isn't sweden (sorry don't mean to dig up historical conflicts), but the scenery is similar. perhaps this video planted the idea of living in scandinavia (even if for just a bit) slightly over a decade ago, then i totally forgot about it, but sub-consciously was chasing this dream anyway.

I visited Finland a couple years back during a 10 day break for people with Tourettes Syndrome, we were from a number of different countries around Europe. I always wanted to visit this country, I'd like to return again this time in the Winter. I was amazed how quiet and how freeing it was with has so few people around - nothing like the South of England where we're surrounded by others and traffic all of the time!
