I grew up out in the country with a pack of standards. Best critter dogs you could think of. You didn't see as much as a squirrel on the property for years. Don't get me wrong they're sweet, loving companions. But they were bred for a job, and they will perform it to perfection when given the opportunity. If you have a ranch or keep livestock, add one of these standards to your pack and say goodbye to unwanted pests.
I've had over 11 dachshunds in my life time all were beautiful loving friends. We recently lost our most loyal one 3 months ago at the age of 18. He had paralysis in his hind end since the age of 4 but he had a full and active life with plenty of adventures and love. All the dachshunds we have now and over the years have all ben full blood miniatures from shelters and rescues. There is no need to buy one from a breeder unless it's for statis which is the wrong reason.
Had a 28 lbs. healthy muscular black and tan standard named Stosh. Stosh was a great dog and he lived to 16 and I loved him. He was hilarious and stubborn disobedient etc. A true scent hound dog and excavator burrower with my pillows and furniture as well and bed sheets. Took me almost 2 yrs. of consistent training to get my buddy obedient and socialized. He was worth it it. We lived in a very urban environment and the neighborhood regulars and fellow dog lovers in my condo building loved him. I MISS HIM.
Lost my baby of 14yrs she was about 15lbs... we now have 2 new baby girls. They should get up to 8lbs maybe. They are now 4/5?months old. About 5lbs...

I can totally vouch for the temperament difference! My mini long haired boy is much more playful than my standard smoothie… I actually got my standard boy as a friend for my mini because I couldn’t keep up with his play demands - well what a fail! 😂😂
I can see they quite love it out there on the Dachshund farm. So much to explore and smell. It's cold where I'm at as well but I thank you very much for making this video as I've been watching all of them.
I love the high instinct of them for hunting prey. I have had three dachshunds in my lifetime over a span of 30 years and I have noticed that my last one had the highest drive for hunting. They will keep the bug population down and the mice population down to the point where we have no mice on our property. They have all been quite exciting little lads and enjoy sniffing the whole yard daily. I'm happy to hear that that it's just as much enrichment as running around. My last dachshund was determined to sniff bit of the backyard on a daily basis and enjoyed doing so. Out of all of my dachshunds only one of them were smooth the other two were long hair. I love the long haired for they are so fun but I will admit the snow catches on their chest and when they come in they have snowballs attached to their bodies. They are so into bugs that if not careful they will get bit by a poisonous spider which I have experienced with one of my dachshunds, her name was Chloe and her little face swelled up the first time it happened. Worried I took her to the vet where they gave her a shot to help with the allergic reaction. They told me if this happens again I can give them 1 mg of Benadryl per pound of dog so I've learned a lot about them being so mischievous. I wonder if you guys have any long hairs and if so can you make a video with them. Thank you
Wow!, way to play down the temperament differences. Let me translate from polite to plan talk. Smooth minnies are barky ,bity, high strung and stupid. The smooth standard is smart, quiet. and seldom excited past age 2. Minnies are the second most bite prone in the show ring (chihuahua #1). Did you get your chocolates from Lucene stock?
@@cootsateversden I must disagree. In the states we have been breeding for over 40 years for our smooth standards to be "smart, quiet. and seldom excited." I can point to at least 6 bloodlines 30+ years old that have achieved that. The idea that "every dog is unique and different" is not what show breeders are striving for. I am looking to breed the same confirmation and behavior in all my litters.

Awe love. I have a miniature dachshund bitch Luna & planning on breeding her when she comes into season. She's a chocolate - tan with the Isabella gene & hoping on keeping one female.because so needy - as an artist I found it hard to paint lol. These dogs are so full of energy and always wanting to be a part of what you're doing. I have been a dachshund lover for years and would never have any other breed. They are both loving and loyal to their owners. I can just picture her getting into your paint brushes and begging for attention as you paint 😊
Absolutely the best and sweetest breed on earth. I lost my sweet mini named Frannie years ago. I’m always so happy whenever I see another dachshund❤❤❤❤❤❤.
That's a tiny standard. That standard has an ugly head,and no Roman nose which is in the AKC standard. Not to mention standards were the ones that baited the badgers not the minis.
I think the standard is just as beautiful as the mini. These dogs are a pure example of what a Dachshund should look like and I think your comment was not nice. How would you like it if someone told you you had an ugly nose? I think she's beautiful

My Klhoé Marie just turned 15 on 05Dec22. She is my Baby-Doll... yes ya'all, I'm a grown ass man with a Baby-Doll! I got her when she was six weeks old, and we Both knew the second we laid eyes on each other. I was like 'oh look at that lil girl over there, just Perfection, perfect long wiener nose, perfect long wiener body and oh my God such a perfect wiener girl!' She stood up, walked over to me and said awrrrr with a lil yawn... the lady says, 'that's strange, she's never done that before.' I replied, 'that's because she's never met her Daddy before!' Ran to the ATM and a couple hours later she was home! And she is Perfection! I thank God each and every day for her. I have never loved anything so very much! I had minis for a long time, then found a standard at the humane society. Oh boy! We call him the Killjoy. He's the old man who doesn't want children playing on his lawn. When my kids were little, if we'd be playing Go Fish on the floor, he'd sit right down on top of the pile of cards. Children, other dogs--they should all behave properly when our Sammy is around! He's got to be about 16 now--almost blind, very deaf, and can barely smell food cooking. But he still loves to chase and squeak his toys! (Which he hides out of reach of the bigger dog on purpose--only HE can have fun!) The standards definitely feel more "solid" than the minis, which I was grateful for when my children were small.
We had two standards and we had one Mini. The mini was the one who cost us the most trouble. She just did things the others didn't do. The others were beautiful. And we like the mini we love the many but he got into stuff he shouldn't have got into
We have a mini, she weighs about 10 pounds! She is playful but feisty. As the smallest dog in a house of 4 she rules the roost. We have a Jack Russell terrier mix, a border collie and a Belgian malnois and little miss sophie is by far thee boss!!!
Are they located near you ? I ask because I’ve had 2 people from 2 different breeders try to scam me. I almost hit that send of $1,490 when my son found them on the puppy scam site, now I’m scared to have one flown in or w/e because once you’ve my money and I’ve no puppy that’s painful….

I grew up with mini Dachshunds and I'm telling you that you and your family are going to love her! They are such wonderful dogs and she will be one of the family in no time!
