Hi Brandon, did you first create your notes and then use the spreadsheet to track repeated revision sessions, or does creating notes for 1.1 count as your first input on the dashboard?
What did your review schedule look like on a day when you had 4 sections to review for example? Just problems and flashcards from the review sections and then into the new material? I'm preparing for level 1, have a good study routine but my review routine sucks and I'm not sure how to effectively split my time so i don't fall behind on readings but still get my review in. Example, i study for 3-4 hours per day on week days; would you do 1 hour of review, then the remaining 2-3 hours of studying afforded to new material? Or how much of your study time would be allocated to review for you each day? Did you get through a reading per day or a full section per day? Specifically, a "section" normally includes 3-4 readings in fixed income for example.
Yes, when I had 4 sections to review, I would review my flashcards and do a few practice problems from Kaplan. If I didn't understand something, I'd go back to the textbook material. I typically went back and forth between reviewing material and learning new material. I would review a few sections, for example, then learn a new section, and then go back to reviewing the remaining sections. Whenever I switched, it felt like a break to me. With Kaplan, there are the Topics, the Readings, and then the "sections." I tried to learn 2 new sections per day. 2 sections may seem low, but once you start reviewing past lessons, your study load per day will build up pretty quickly. Most of my studying time on any given day was spent reviewing material.
Algorithm algorithm algorithm algorithm algorithm algorithm algorithm algorithm. I'm a college dropout. I think two things I had wrong was a vaccine reaction towards concentration and good study habits skills. Don't know why I couldn't get focus reading textbooks.
Dear Brandon, are you planning to make a similar video for CFA Level II? That would be very awesome. And thanks a lot for all the tips, this helped me to pass the CFA Level I exam. Best, Pascal
@@bhill-biznessprofessionals That's true that the techniques can be applied as well for the Level II exam. Will definitely use the excel tracking sheet again, that was such a powerful tool. Thanks again for all the tips and tricks!
Thank you for the great summary - informative and concise! I've watched a few and by far this was the best. However I must concurr with the rest of the comments: the background music is mighty distracting. Anyways, thanks!
Hey Brandon ! Does the spreadsheet for 2025 only align with the Kapln content? Like it won’t help me if i just depends on the cfa content or Mark ? Thank you cz I already look forward to it
It is built for Kaplan’s material because it references their table of contents. The spreadsheet can be easily edited and I know several have adapted the sheet for using Mark’s material. I have not done this myself though, so I can’t comment on the experience of doing so
Yes, the spreadsheet can easily be edited. You can swap out these CFA lessons for the topic you'd like. You can also delete rows, add rows, and copy the formulas into the new rows and the spreadsheet will continue to work.
for my case my team and i trust each other and was planning to quit. So we did look for jobs and even though i did not have any solid offers, i quit first shortly followed by my teammates. In the company we were pretty much isolated and given crap to the point i see guys cry almost on a daily basis from being verbally and mentally abused by the bosses. in the end even though i waited over a year to get a job, it has been healing. It may not be for everyone especially if there isn't any savings to sail you through the jobless months.
Hello Bhill, are there any big differences between the 2025 material from the 2024? I want to buy all but of 1 year. I intend to take the noverber exam , buy maybe I don't get it and I'd go to the 2025 exam. Help me please.
There are minor differences. I'd say go ahead and purchase the 2024 sheet. If you end up deciding to take the exam in 2025, you can reach back out to me
hey wanted to ask if i want to decide myself which topics to study according to "Todays date" will the " todays studys column show " the topic youve put according to ur plan or can we choose what to study today accrding to own plan each day . Also, do we have to plan every topic to study on each day upfront ?
You can study the topics in any order you like, at the pace you like. You do not need to plan each day upfront. You can study 3.1 one day and 51.1 the next day. I frequently studied things out of order as well.
@@bhill-biznessprofessionals Hey Brandon I'm not sure why but in the spread sheet any date I change as today's date doesn't produce any topic for me to study today
May I ask if you know how to get the pdf file of the CFA official textbook for level 1? They are nowhere to be found in my country (Vietnam) and I don't want to register for the test yet since the fees are high and I'm not sure if I can prepare myself in time for the test while also working 2 jobs?

From my earliest years until I turned 18, I grappled with self-doubt and academic challenges. Despite my best efforts, subjects like math, English, and physics remained elusive to me throughout my school years. Yet, amidst these struggles, a greater trial awaited: from ages 10 to 17, I underwent the taxing ordeal of dialysis. However, within the depths of adversity, I nurtured a flicker of hope and ambition. At 17, a life-changing kidney transplant marked a turning point in my journey, infusing me with renewed determination and a sense of purpose. But the road to success was far from smooth. In the corridors of academia, I encountered the hurtful words of bullies and the isolating silence of indifference. Yet, I refused to be defined by my setbacks. Instead, I transformed them into stepping stones, each hurdle propelling me closer to my dreams. Today, as I reflect on the trials I've overcome, I am filled with gratitude for the resilience that sustained me. With unwavering support from loved ones, I navigated the darkest of nights, emerging stronger and more determined than ever. My journey, though marked by challenges, is a testament to the power of perseverance and the resilience of the human spirit. And as I set my sights on a career in finance, particularly in pursuing my dream of becoming a CFA, I do so with a heart full of hope and a steadfast belief in the boundless possibilities that lie ahead.
Would yall say is worth buying the Kaplan materials? I feel like its the same info that cfa provides when you register for the exam... any feedback is greatly appreciated!! I didnt pass lvl 1 and this will definitely be a game changer!! Thank you so much Brandon for taking the time to share this with us
Hopefully, some others will comment and give their opinion as well, but I tried using CFA materials and Kaplan's materials, and Kaplan worked better for me for two reasons. 1) Kaplan's material was more concise and more digestible to read and take notes on. I found that the CFAI material was lengthy. This made it harder to learn from and more intimidating to learn from 2) Kaplan's QBank (bank of practice questions) interface was easy to use. I was able to easily build mini-quizzes and review my answers with the explanation that each question has attached to it
@bhill-biznessprofessionals I agree, the amount of material included was very overwhelming at times:/ Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely check out Kaplan.
@@dibthedave Unfortunately, I can't comment. I have never used Mark Meldrum's notes. I watched his youtube videos for general CFA content/advice, but I have never viewed his actual notes or materials
@@bhill-biznessprofessionals Oh okay, considering I tend to rely more on notes rather than videos, I think I’ll go forward with Kaplan then. Also, I’m going to be giving Level 1 in February 2025 so will there be any changes made to your excel sheet for 2025 or would you recommend buying it now? I haven’t properly gone through whether there will be any changes in the course plan of Level 1 in 2025 and your sheet is currently for 2024 I believe, so I just wanted to check
In my experience, it can be summed up like: Small company: very casual, you feel much more comfortable communicating, boss isn't a detached entity, you at least feel like you matter Big company: you're a cog in the machine and everyone being nice is so obviously and painfully fake, you only tell yourself that you matter to keep the routine masquerade up, code bootcamps kinda suck and are a lie and a trap
Hi Brandon, thanks very much for this video. I am still trying to decide whether to commit to taking the CFA. As an over 45 year old who has not been at uni for over 20 yrs and not done maths for longer it is quite overwhelming. On the maths side of things, is it worth me doing a maths course before even attempting the CFA? Any recommendations? Dont want to invest in your course and kaplan and the CFA exam to find I am stumped at on the maths side. Cheers
Hey Gary! I appreciate you reaching out. I don't think a math course is necessary. None of the math on the CFA level 1 exam is particularly advanced. And the math concepts you do need to know, you will pick up through Kaplan's textbook material or through the explanations to the answers to the practice questions in Kaplan's QBank (bank of all practice questions).
Brandon, thank you for putting out this video. I will be signing up for the feb. 2025 level 1 exam when registration opens and I was curious when you anticipate updated 2025 material to be available on your website as I definitely plan on utilizing your tools. Thank you!
I can't update my materials until Kaplan releases their 2025 materials, since the spreadsheet uses their structure of Topics, Readings, and Modules. I will update my sheet shortly after Kaplan releases their 2025 materials, which should happen within the next few months
That Similarity Principle is profound. I believe this also applies in business as well. This is a predominately white society and I believe that they do overwhelmingly feel more comfortable dealing with each other. This maintains a high socioeconomic and political status in society. In my Pro Se discrimination case against my employer (predominately white institution), the other side has refused to negotiate in good faith with me as a black man (some may say it’s due to me being Pro Se) for 3 years. A white female has entered the negotiations on my behalf and there has been some traction…amazing.
Hey Brandon, been using your template for a while now for August - I am wondering what did you do when some days you had over 5 flashcards sets to review? I've been getting 6 and even 7 in some days and I find it hindering the amount of time I could be learning the new material, how would you recommend to work around?
If you are struggling with 5 flashcard sets, your flashcards may be too complex, or you are spending too much time on your flashcards due to understanding. Your flashcards should be for reviewing, not for learning for the first time. This could be why it's taking so long to get through your flashcards. You could go back to review your original notes to develop understanding first. Then your flashcards will be a review. Often, I was spending seconds on each flashcard. And I would sometimes have up to 20 sets per day to review. You need to be able to move through flashcards quickly to do that volume obviously. As you start to rank more lessons 9 or 10, this will alleviate how many flashcard decks you could potentially review per day, since the study sessions are spaced out further. But somedays are just brutal with the scheduling as the due dates for lessons pile up on one day in particular. For these days, you could lesson the load by studying a few lessons a day or two later, if that day has a light load
@@bhill-biznessprofessionals thank you. I believe its just my cards are too complex. would you recommend to maybe just make the anki card purely just vocab review, like those bolded terms in the kaplan curriculum?
@@specterwo1f746 Vocab review probably won't be enough. You'll need a mix of concepts, vocab, and formulas on your flashcards. Whatever is useful for you
Hey Brandon, thanks a lot, these templates have been so useful to me I used them throughout my studies and have just found out that I passed my CFA Level 1!
Hi Brandon, I am taking level 1 exam in august. Was wondering if you would do 1 on 1 sessions to go through textbook questions. I just need help with using the calculator (BA II Plus professional) is this something you could maybe help with?
