Hey there! We're Mary and Brandon, and we've been together for more than ten years. We've explored many places together, from bustling cities like Tokyo to serene beaches in the Philippines. Like many others of our generation (millennials), we decided to start a family, and now we have our sweet baby girl, Phoebe! On our channel, we share our experiences traveling, offer tips, recommend delicious food spots, and share our daily lives as parents. Come join us on our adventures, and we look forward to connecting with you soon!
Many parts of downtown are just fine, I go there for events and farmers/Saturday market. East Portland has awesome eclectic neighborhoods with great food. I live in west of Portland, right outside of Forrest park, so I get to enjoy Portland and Beaverton. I know Portland has ways to go to get back to where it needs to be, but it still has so much awesomeness to offer. Oregon is one of the prettiest state I’ve ever lived/visited by far, and it looks like you enjoyed it fully.
I grew up right by the entrance of Macleay Park, literally a block away in the early 80's. It was my childhood stomping ground. Miss that area. On the Eastside now, but I get back there a decent amount. Jogging is still fun at Forest Park. Thurman street looks almost exactly how it did, some 35-40 years ago. My Dad sat on the neighborhood board and is a retired landscape architect and was a huge proponent of keeping the neighborhood's the same. We lived close to where the old Forestry Building was. I think at the time, the city wanted to extend the freeway to go right through there and it would have completely changed that area and my Dad helped fight the city, for that plan to never happen.
This is Democratic Policy at its finest. All major cities are turning to shit and guess what they all have in common… they vote blue. Please seriously think about voting conservative this year. I’m tired of woke agenda, it’s killing our country.
Did you think all of the stereotypes were just Boomer propaganda? I want to feel sorry for you, as, yes...this IS Portland all day. But, come on man, you put yourself in this position. The people in PDX are the biggest part of the problem. No one fights back, they all roll over and apologize to whatever junkie 'BIPOC' is robbing them at the moment, because if it weren't for white people like them, there would be no oppression, and therefore, no robberies. Hope you got your fill of fentanyl, defacating in public, and quirkiness. Exit through the gift shop.
I'm from Oregon in Portland is a s******* they keep voting in the same idiots that allow this crime to happen there is no accountability The cops don't even arrest him and take him to jail because they'll just get released Good job voters You f***** up another state.
Yeah I grew up here, I’d stay away from the city of Portland and go to the areas around it like Beaverton, Vancouver and all towns in the gorge. Just stay away from Gresham it’s just as bad😂
I’m so late to this vlog and I’m really sorry to hear that happened here. I was just in downtown Portland today Vancouver resident, and used to work on 6th and couch in old town. I’ve had vandalism to my car.. scratches to windshield and reflector kicked out. I’ve had co workers cars stolen from the lot.. however I still come to the city. We do have a problem with people living on the streets and substance abuse..however the outreach team have been putting in their steps and really tending to the unhoused. I am single and frequent downtown still.. because truth is it’s a great city. Super happy an arrest was made in this instance because without bike squad there.. No chance at one later. Happy most of all your family is safe.
I've been to Crater lake and yes the boat rides are so worth it. It will take you out to the island so you can hike it too. Just know you do the boats get there early in the morning before they open to get tickets. You then can go do your thing till you ticket time, Just make sure you give time to get down to the boats.
I went to Portland from Idaho about an 8 hour drive to help my uncle set up a store/because he swore Portland was so much better. Literally go there, parked the car to get out, and as I look up to open the door and get out a crackhead was running up screaming at me about how I had ruined his dinner with his wife and daughter and blah blah but he was alone and I had literally just pulled up to park. He paced around the area for a good hour as we were unloading stuff into the shop. Portland has gotten horrible honestly, it was a lot nicer when I was younger and it seems to slowly go downhill year by year when I go visit. That same trip I watched a homeless camp strip a stolen car right across the street from my uncle's storage and it didn't even remotely phase him, so I think the people who actually live there have just gotten so desensitized to it that it doesn't affect them anymore.
I live a couple miles from downtown and this is pretty typical of street crime in Portland. Everything is all cool, everything seems normal, and then suddenly it turns out one of the people around you is completely psychotic and does something totally dangerous and unhinged. I've never been a victim of it but I've had friends who have been, one of them was randomly bitten and then the woman who did it just acted like nothing had happened. Portland's city government is getting restructured this November and hopefully that breaks up the current bureaucracy that is preventing adequate homeless and mental health services from behind carried out like they are in most other large US cities. Right now we're the only large US city without a real city council.
Yes you’re right about that.. I was once on yamhill just went to Nordstrom rack and was heading to waterfront. A woman barefoot and unhinged stood in front of my friend and I not speaking coherently and we proceed to go around and she spit on me.. on my back I was mortified .. didn’t even try and engage or call police just ran in shock. They need another place besides state hospital for the ones legally insane.
No they aren’t 😂 2 people who live miles from downtown Trying to say what life here is like is hilariously Oregonian. I’ve lived downtown for two years in the area that they were eating. a block away from nongs, and never seen anything like this.
Hi, thanks for such a great video! May I know how do you travel around? By bus/train? If you're taking taxi, do you need to have a car seat for your baby? Thank you!
Glad you all are safe.. I tend to park in the parking garages when I go downtown… Glad you caught multnomsh falls and the cheese factory…both are popular places I used to take my Japanese exchange students! Now my question is this… in this video, did you actually wake up in downtown Portland, drive to the gorge, cannon beach, Tillamook, the dunes near Florence, then to the wildlife safari in two days? I managed to see two “sleeps” possibly in this video. How many days did this section of the trip take? Love your video btw!
Thank you so much! We definitely loved Oregon, such a beautiful and vibrant culture. We especially loved Bend and the coast. Can't wait to see Portland get back on track so we can visit again.
OMG - Yikes? I live in Portland and I don't go downtown - or I'm very selective about where my car is. Downtown is still not back (being safe, etc.) Jesus, I'm so glad the PPB Bike Squad was there. I follow them on Instagram - they do good work. Welcome to Portland! You guys are doing all the Oregon things! Growing up - we always went to Wildlife Safari! What a nice family 💚💖💖
Aww so lucky to have the Wildlife Safari growing up. But yeah, thank you! Oregon is so beautiful, we met so many great Portland locals that are hopeful to see the city get back on track and thrive again. Can't wait til then so we can come back. Outside of the transient stuff, such a cool culture with great food!
Oh my Gosh! How scary. I am glad they were able to arrest her. My son and daughter-in-law live in Portland. They never go downtown anymore. You made better memories with the rest of your trip.
Whoa! sorry to hear that, thankfully everyone is safe! Daddy/Momma Bear instincts kicked in. That devilish goat picture in the background is one of many red flags lol
Nice wish I had a younger sibling I only have 3 brothers one 17 one 15 one 12 and me the girl 😂 and don't have a dad and 2 of my brothers have a different dad and they both passed😢 but nice vid😊
