How can I determine the most recent firmware released to the public? I recently downloaded the web firmware of 0.1.48, however, the green app is telling me there is a new firmware of 1.0.21. I’m trying to verify what the different is prior to installing.
after recovery phrase has been recorded and validated, i'm asked how to i want to connect to green, via usb or bluetooth. I choose neither, the whole purpose of this airgapped hardware wallet is to provide the layer of extra security of the device having never touched any internet connected device.. am i missing something?
Are you on the latest version (1.0.21)? When you select QR on the connection you will have the option to skip PIN setup and go straight to the stateless wallet
Ok, I’ll be first to comment. Well done for clear descriptions, although many terms used are still an unknown to me. Having said that i can always research the terms and my learning continues. This whole area is new to me and a lot of learning needs to be done to embrace the future. I’m retired and 60 years old, but I’m not going to let the novel complexity stop me from getting my head around this. Please continue to provide many more videos. Thank you.
Thanks for your comment, which terms would you like more clarification on? We can add them to our Bitcoin glossary: glossary.blockstream.com/ (another good resource when taking on the Bitcoin learning curve).
I am not at ease with that QR pin unlock. How do I know my seed is not leaked through the process ? My passport HW does not need that 4-steps scans with internet for example, I just need to enter my PIN code and then I am ready to sign. Other point is: How do I get to my wallet if internet is unavailable or jade webpage is gone ?
You can read the QRs using BC-UR to see exactly what data is being transferred. And no need to use QR PIN if you don't want to, can scan a SeedQR instead. If the QR PIN webpage is unavailable you can scan a SeedQR, run the webpage yourself (its open source), or manually enter your recovery phrase on Jade
I think explaining the concepts of the device should actually show someone using the device.... Like a tutorial. Do you have anything like that available...?
If you turn on a fresh Jade, you get the setup screen where you can either initialize it or go to advanced and you're given 3 options. First you have the Power-off timeout, recovery phrase login, and exit to bring you back to the setup page with initialize and advanced again is my guess. If you were to choose the advanced area and select "recovery phrase login" would you be able to also choose the 12/24 word backup along with turning it into a QR you can export? If so, I'm assuming you wouldn't be able to use the PIN login anymore due to not initializing it and you would only ever be able to access the wallet via scanning that QR (for quickness) or inputting the seed each time correct? If I'm understanding correctly, using that recovery phrase method will forget the wallet each time the Jade is turned off and when it's turned back on again it will make it seem like it's never been setup and you'll have to go back through Recovery Phrase Login, and either input the 12/24 words, or scan the QR you exported. All of this is assuming you get the option to create the 12/24 word seed and export it into a QR before ever hitting "initiate", or does this only allow for usb/bluetooth transactions solely? My hope is you can because it almost adds another layer of security because if anyone ever gets their hands on the Jade itself, it will seem like it's never been setup due to always needing to go through the advanced section on startup. I got a little confused in the section on the website because it mentions how it's necessary in airgap situations and stating to not create a QR of your recovery on a device that will ever be online. The last step is what threw me off a bit because the only options in the thread at to connect via usb/bluetooth which would make them online, or connecting for fireware upgrades too, or am I mistaken?
You are correct that you can create a recovery phrase and a SeedQR, but never finish initialization. You can then use Recovery Phrase Login to use your Jade and it will look like it's never been touched
Blockstream’s Jade is worth every penny. Please maintain the integrity of the company and don’t break (coughs Ledger) the agreement! I just wish Blockstream could support Altcoins. Please make that happen.
Nice video! Two question came to my mind. Can I use a QR Code to pair JADE with Android/iOS? Are transactions in Blockstream Green signed via Bluetooth or QR code/can I pick between the two? Finally, does Blockstream Green support lightning payments?
Mine doesn't do this. After the words, and right after creating a PIN, it tells me to scan a QR code with a web browser. That part doesn't work - my browser can't open it. I have no idea why it would require me to go to a webpage, but it simply won't progress past that.
Can i skip the QR Pin unlock setup? Will it go to the next step of setting up seedqr? if this is done, i.e. Seed QR is setup. If i reboot my Jade, can i still choose Bluetooth mode interaction instead of QR interaction? Will Jade bring me to the Bluetooth paring? if yes and assuming it's done. Now I have both options of interactions with Bluetooth and SeedQR and I am still using one wallet address?? Am I right? Pls advise. thanks!
I am using BlockStream Green for almost 2 years now and it's so easy to setup and configure this wallet that even a 2 years old kid can do that, even the 2FA multisig mechanism is like a walk in the park! Can't wait for the new lighting version support!
So what happens if the blockstream server is compromised/hacked/audited/warrant/subpoena by authorities? How is my seed secure if my passphrase has left the physical device? Just looking for clarity please
@Blockstream so what happens if government gives a subpoena to search your server data? If the device communicates with server doesn't that create a back-door? Sorry to be a pain, I'm just paranoid after the ledger situation
