This one made me research Carl Jung. Because of the line “I am the shadow you're a passenger”. Really interesting things that I learned that because of my research 😊
just for context, in some of the songs, like Give, Vessel describes the point of view of the entity (Sleep) hes worshipping, so here, its like Sleep is singing to him, telling that he/she wants to be near, watching, consuming, protecting. This interpretation will bring to u more thoughts about whats going on in their relationship.
i thought your interest in suicide boys was such a cool unique niche take and now you are delving through sleep token, i love it i wanna be like you when i grow up lol. thank you sir
I absolutely love this song, but the lyrics, for me, always make me think of childhood narcissistic abuse. How you crave that unconditional love, and just when you think you can trust it, it turns on you. Makes you hate yourself and think you’re the problem. But even then, you can’t help but crave it. 🫤 The part at the end hits especially hard - “Just want to be worth it / I will run like the wind 'til you follow me again” - all you want is to feel worthy of the love you deserve, and no matter how far you run, or how much you go no-contact, that kind of abuse follows you your whole life. So you’re constantly cycling through moments of clarity and moments of cptsd. 😮💨
It was a real museum, it was long closed and reopened for this video, his wife died a couple of weeks after this video that is her on the stairs listening. This is his goodbye song, his daughter asked him and he said yes.
I was just going to ask what insurance you take, but I see I'm not the only one. Lol I've been looking for the right therapist for me for so, so many years. Nothing seems right. I've got so much I've never spoken about. Nobody seems to fit. Music helps so much, and faith, and seeing you have both and no judgements against people...dang. I'd love to talk to you. I need to spill my guts. 😅
A few points, Cash didn't write this song, he covered it. His wife passed shortly after releasing it and he followed soon after. Yes, the museum is real. The woman on the stairs is his daughter who said this song "feels like you're saying goodbye", he said "I am".
Man if you knew his life you’d understand everything he’s saying. The symbolism in this song is his life. I remember when he was doing so much meth he would go nuts on stage, and he was arrested bringing drugs from Mexico. He was the biggest country star in the world and on a path of self destruction. As a fan I expected any day to hear he was dead, but then he met June Carter and his whole life changed. When he was a child his older brother was killed by a board saw while Johnny was fishing and his father blamed him. His whole life was trying to win his father’s approval. Appearances can be deceiving and Johnny cash hid his pain well.
Yeeeees dear MORE sleep token! Would love to see your reactions to The night does not belong to god and Levitate. And generally their whole discography since it's a story/journey to behold!
I’m sure you’d get a ton out of The Way That You Were by Sleep Token. A less popular song but one of the more mental health focused songs in a less round a bout way as well
June and Johnny closed Cash house in Hendersonville closed House of Cash because they they didn’t want to have any memorials of them to make money on their achievements or lives a stars. It all, inciting the Sign of House of Cash in the Johnny Cash in Nashville. Hurt is the last tribute in the place. FYI, Patsy Cline Museum is upstairs above it. It is just impressive too. Nearly all the things in her life is there.
It was a open to public closed went into disrepair burned to ground in 2007.The story of how video was made was very interesting had only day's.That was his family home that was destroyed in a flood.June died in 2003 4 months later Johnny died.
This is why I hate therapists. You don't know the first thing about the subject of your profession: people. Even a layman, as evidenced by all the commenters, know this is about an elderly man, one at the top of his world, dying, and reflecting on his life. Do better, your patients deserve it.
Trent Reznor wrote it and Cash did the awesome cover. The song is actually about addiction and depression. The video was made to fit Cash and where he was at that stage of his life.
This is my fav reaction to this song, he explains it well, he also appreciate the amazing drums, i like people who appreciate lyrical content and musical components to the song
I've got an entire sleeve dedicated to Sad Machine and Shelter by Porter Robinson. Dude helped me through some shitty times. 100% listen to more of him. Both of those, Something Comforting, Get Your Wish, Mirror, Everything Goes On, he's got so many insane songs.
This was a formative iconic song for me in my youth.. . a song about self harm, depression, and suicide. Trent Reznor was speaking directly to me and for me with that song. Johnny Cash covering this song with THIS FN VIDEO takes it to a whole other level. It's no longer Trent's song. 10/10 will cry again.
June Carter Cash died on 15 May 2003 and Johnny Cash died on 12 September 2003. He covered Hurt, by Nine Inch Nails, released in 2002. TY-he album, American IV: The Man Comes Around, was released by American recordings and produced by Rick Rubin. known for producing rap music. When Rick Rubin found out that Johnny Cash had been dropped by his longtime record label, Rick approached Cash about doing the American Recordings albums (4), of which American IV: The Man Comes Around was the last before he died. If you're looking for information on his early career, his autobiography is an excellent read.
In this song he’s showing what could’ve happened if he didn’t have music to release his feelings! Kim also sued for defamation but I believe lost the case!
It's amazing that the same song can take on two different meanings. The original by Trent Reznor was about depression and struggles with suicidal thoughts while Cash's version is about regrets at the end of his life.
To me, this song can take on millions of different meanings. It's just another aspect of how we *are* all different and yet this song could be sung by any one of us based on our *own* mistakes and defeats and victories. That in itself, makes us all the same. :) It's just a thought....
Most of his songs are not this... Uhh... Sporadic? Im a BIG fan yet I hated this one when it came out becauae it just seemed messy. I think that was part of the point in hindsight. It has grown on me a LOT since then, but it will never be anywhere near his best work IMO. So for anyone that this is their intro to Porter's music, do yourself a favor and listen to some others.
i have my own version of the lyrics, altered to fit my life. thats a work not complete yet. i yet to work in how everyone i trusted has gone or ended up using me for their own gain.
