I have an alternate theory that it might not be the direction that matters but the distance. Presuming you're on 2M, when you turn you move the antenna a quarter to a third of a wavelength closer or further to your contact's reciever and there's a low point in the wave. Maybe repeat the experiment and try rotating yourself around the antenna without changing it's position too much.
Not to be a debbie downer or anything, but you tested your rubber duck at one height and the FP at a different height! Height matters for VHF/UHF. Also the rubber duck is only half of the antenna whereas you holding it in your hand would be the other half of the antenna system! So you really are kinda comparing apples and oranges! I will say that building a flower pot is certainly worth it as they work great...and getting them as high off the ground as possible makes them work ever better! Cheer and 73!
You are spot on Mike! It's small but mighty radio for what it cost and its ability. When you check components inside that are soldered on Pcb, it is so neat compared to other budget radios. Very tidy radio. I think this radio is Quasheng k5 killer at the moment....
Using a C cable don't give you full 8.5v when using it off a phone chargeronly 5v ,same as the quansheng uv58 I'd rather use a charging dock gives that 8.5 volts
My problem is when I'm out working at my local steam railway, which only has power - no internet at all. My signal on my old Pixel 6 was a reasonable 2 bars, so I could just about browse the net. but now my new S23 can't get any signal at all out there. Phone calls sound worse than 2 bean cans and forget trying to browse the net - not possible.
Hi! is this "radio" able for use a SDR with a VHF Radio to build a local small repeater linked to Zello? I know that it's possible, bit with PCs, Phones or tablets. The idea is don't use a phone. Greetings!
id love to know what the difference between this and the radtel rt-890 are. im very new to amateur radio and feel like a shelf stacker trying to read a technical engineering drawing.
you look really happy with it :D i hope it finds a good home and some one gets good use from it. i have had a few HT's like that over the years and will not go near them these days and if i was given one i would probably give it away to. thats why i done a give away on a quanshen a while ago. great back up radio or 1st handy to a new ham :D good luck every one :D
Got back on the air in 1998 with a TS940 which served my needs for casual operating. But now retired and started my search for a premium mid range radio. Looked mainly at TS890 IC7610 and the FTDX101 which I leaned towards. Well just picked up an FT920 at a nice price instead to try my first Yaesu. Such a nifty 25 yo radio with a lot of knobs and buttons to work like the 940 but the deep menu system is very intuitive and fun. Probably wont get bored with the FT920 for a while and can still use the 940 along with the rest of my "antiques collection" which include a TS430 IC735 and Drake C Line.
Absolutely love this radio I currently have 3 that I use for ham and business radio use, nice and light for use on a mountain bike in a group, although they come only on the ham 2m and 70cms out of the box you can unlock them for full 136-174mhz and 400-480mhz use at the push of a button. 73 m7msc
Hi! When working precisely through sockets at small loads (30-100), the station, in addition to the fan, makes a sound "like a cricket" (sorry, I can't explain it any other way). I understand this may be the inverter's normal operation because this sound changes depending on the load. Have you encountered such a "problem"?
Hi. No absolutely not. In the motorhome (see the video airing in a week) I sometimes have it powering some very small devices through mains. I havent heard this effect.
Great video thanks for taking your time to show us this radio and it help what is like to hold it and help about the radio and keep up the great videos. M7FLM
