This was World War II. Hitler. Mussolini. The Holocaust. If you mean "why?" As in their reasons for fighting, that would be a complicated and debatable answer. It would also be just my opinion.
I see. It's really messed up to be honest. They fought for freedom abroad while fighting for freedom at home. By proving themselves capable I believe, they aimed to prove they deserved the same rights they were fighting for. The easy answer would be to say, "they were fighting fascism over seas and racism at home." That's a little too cookie cutter of an answer though. Maybe I'll start working on a long video about it. I've been meaning to start on some longer ones.
Everyone. Funny, we were not as divided then as some would lead us to believe. Why has that changed? Better then than now? There will always be racism, look to the lower form of life at every shade. You will see it
Glory but you are talking shit, they arent 1st black soldiers who fight, what about colonial forces of France or England? when Hitler attacked Poland in 39 France made a forces mobilisations so itseasy to assume that when Germany attacked France there was a black soldiers from French colonies
First off, I clearly state that they were among the first. Not the first. Second: I clearly state that they are U.S. troops. Not French, not German. Maybe actually listen first before commenting. 🤷♂️
@@ImmortalLegendsHQ "these man were among the first black soldiers to seek combat in the war" my mistake i didn't catch word "among" so you are perfectly right my fault excuse me
Im from the same iwi as hongi hika Nga puhi and also a direct descendant of rahiri, kupe and nukutawhiti my hapu are ngati toro and ngati rahiri of hokianga! 💯💪🏾❤️😎
Longest serving unit in the US army? Who has heard that fact before? Not me and I've watched alot of war documentaries and read alot of books. This is something I will definitely be researching more. And imagine what they came back 2. Much worse than after ww2. Salute 2 u soldiers. 🫡
Politicians were scared to allow them to gain combat experience. Those pentagon generals were well studied in the fierce performance of Africans during the anglo-zulu war just 50 years prior to WWII, so they weren't afraid they wouldn't be smart enough to fight, or whatever reasons given. They didn't want battle seasoned blacks coming back after the war = exactly what happened after vietnam. It was stupid racism, and black veterans are generally more successful than non-veterans.
"Butch" O'Hara was the U.S. Navy's first fighter ace of World War II. BUT he was NOT the U.S. Navy's FIRST ACE. That was Dave Ingalls who saw combat over the Western Front during World War I. He was credited with shooting down 6 German aircraft.
I can't believe I missed this. Gotta do one on Dave Ingalls now. Looks like it's going to be tough finding enough photos. I'd use Ai, BUT people get all up in arms about their heros.
Wow, what a guy ! He was a real Hero . The stuff that legends are made of. Too bad he died in combat and didn't get to live out his life in the freedom he fought for and died for.
But somehow, a certain former president thinks a political donor that he gave the Presidential Medal of Freedom is above him, because the PMoF is better than the MoH according to him.
Oh wow, I've never heard O'hare's story before, and never knew of a connection of his name to the airport. Pretty cool I'd say! O'hare was definitely a fascinating man.
@@johnhorne9977 Not to be a wet blanket here, but he was of Sioux descent as well as part Creole. Although the Creole are partly African in their makeup as well, it might be a bit misleading or overly simplified to say he was an African American. But I profess no expertise in this, so I'll just share what I know and hope you guys can sort it out. Clear skies.
