Nice video. I use to live an hour away from Kelly Flats trail and ran it many times over the years, driving my CJ-7 and CJ-5, both with 31" tires and no lockers. Heart Attack Hill was a handful with no lockers, but the initial gate keeper section I never had much issue. I now have a 2023 2-door Bronco, and wonder about the capability if rear locker is required for that first section. Maybe it's due to the reduced travel of the IFS? I plan to visit Colorado this summer, and hope the Bronco matches my CJs capability, I'll be disappointed if it struggles on that first section.
Thank you! With the Bronco, my impression is that it is an issue of the stock tires. I have not been impressed by them and find them slipping frequently on rocky surfaces. I will be interested to hear how you fare!
I've got 35" tires on my base now. Will be fabricating some skid plates/bumpers. Hoping to make it out to Colorado summer '24. Kelly Flats will be a good comparison of my Bronco and CJs, will report back how it turns out.
Both trails are great, the T-33 is not to be missed if you haven't tried it already. Yes, wheeling with other folks is where it's at - I run trails from time to time with Mile High Jeep Club, Colorado Bronco Owners, and a few others! Those clubs are great resources to get groups out on the trail together.
So far, you're the only 1 to tell how to get to the beginning of Old Flowers Rd. which I appreciate. I've got a FJ so I can do this road. The ruts, one has to patient. My motto is " As Slow As Possible, As Fast As Necessary". :)
I was happy to hear that you found it useful and were able to run the trail. I'm sure that it was no problem with an FJ! Your motto is something that every wheeler should know and live by. See you out there!
There are several places off to the side of the trail ( entering from the East side) for you to air down once you are past the private property area and on the actual trail. I air down there all the time. My favorite spot is a little turn off to the right once you are a smidge into the trail. Pull up to the right to an off road cul de sac, and you can air down easy as pie, off the actual trail. Other good spot is to the left just before the above mentioned spot. I’ll be there tomorrow actually, and can try to remember to get coordinates for these spots! Also, it’s the Canyon Lakes Ranger District, not Crystal Lakes. :)
