Shashi Kapoor's grandfather Basheshwarnath Kapoor had a posting in the Imperial Police in Peshawar but his great grandfather Keshavmal Kapoor was a Tehsildar in Samundri then in the Lyallpur district of Punjab like Amita Bachan's mother. This is why many Kapoors were born in Peshawar but they were Punjabis of Hindu Kathri origin. Pushtuns were never Hindus so this is another obvious clue. Dilip Kumar, Vinod Khanna, Amjad Khan's father, Madhubala's grandfather, Shahrukh Khan's father, Prem Nath, Qavi Khan were Peahawar-born Hindko speakers. This is the reason none of the Peshawari-born actors spoke Urdu/Hindi with an accent like Pashtuns. Even Raj Kumar from Lolalai, Balochistan wasn't Pathan. He was a Kashmiri Pundit. To understand it better one needs a lesson in history. Punjab is only 57% of what it once was. Punjab extended from near Delhi in east to Ghazni in the west. In 1893, British gave Ghazni and other areas to Afghanistan, and in 1901 carved NWFP out of Punjab for future conflicts. In 1901 Peshawar's population was 95,147 mostly Hindko speaking Punjabi Hindu Kathris and Muslim Arains known as Pashoris, the inventors of the popular Pashori chappal. War on Terror further drove local Hindko Punjabis out of Peshawar to cities like Rawalpindi and tribals into Peshawar to where now if one hears of Peshawari-birth one is quick to assume Pashtun lineage. Rajesh Khanna, Dharmendra, Ashkay Kumar, Madan Puri, Harbhajan Maan, Iftekgar Sharif are from Indian Punjab. Prem Chopra was from Lahore, Sunil Dutt from Jehlum and Vinod Mehra from Rawalpindi.
