Almost professional gear & tech reviews, tips and more.
What does semi-professional mean? I don't have formal training or education in film, engineering (audio or otherwise), computer science, etc. I review products and software that I've used or currently use from the point of view of someone who loves to "nerd out" on tech/gear but I'm also not a professional in these fields.
My experience:
+ Content Creator - I've run the @PODinsights channel since 2021 and do all the filming, audio, and editing/post production myself. Feel free to check it out if you want to learn about selling print on demand products on Etsy 😃. + WFH Professional - I've had a WFH job since 2019 and use various tech+gear in that space. + Gear Nerd - I LOVE audio gear, video gear, pretty much any tech gear. I could talk about it all day and will if you let me.
Unfortunately no, that wasn't made clear until after the kickstarter went live. The Flow Lite will come with the regular linear switches installed and if you want the silent Hades switch they have to be added on.
@@semiprotech thank you so much, I might sit this one out until they come out with another option. I have the lofree flow and happy with it. Do you know if I can order the Hades switches on their own? The kickstarter only seems to allow with the purchase of the new kb. Thank you for getting back to me!
4:23 I can use my MX mechanical mini for Mac without a problem while charging. Or do you mean that you cannot use the cable as a wired substitute for a wireless Bluetooth or 2.4 Ghz connection? That's not exactly an issue is it? Only if your computer doesn't have a Bluetooth module or you don't have the USB Bolt receiver.
Finally an honest and realistic rig ( for me at least ). I’ve been watching a ton of the videos planning on dipping my toes, but most sponsored videos showcase brand loyalty and $700- $2000 rigs. For that price point I’ve been better off investing the additional money into my canon eso RP for the video side of things. So thanks!!🙏🏽
I have the first version and I really enjoy it with MT3 or higher keycaps, and clickies or heavy tactiles. It currently has Gateron EF Grayish and MT3 biip Operator. It sounds and feels great. I personally never use wireless nor the right shift, so I had no trouble adjusting. It really depends on use case whether or not this is right for you. And I think your video was really helpful for people to decide! Not many channels talk about every aspect of a keyboard. I appreciate it.
Having to switch between Bluetooth and 2.4Ghz with key presses is annoying, but not as bad as having to toggle a hardware switch at the back of the keyboard, like all the Keychron Max keyboards. I'm baffled that Keychron still has this archaic was to switch between the wireless connectivity options
So I reviewed this prebuilt with white with cat keycaps (think it's only $99)... the only issue for me is the right shift, at it's the one I use 99.9% of the time, which seems to be the standard Alice layout and you can't move it. I ordered an Ergo day one so I've had it a few months and on that one I just moved the up arrow to the right and moved the shift in - Ergo has a delete key BTW. Even switching back and forth between it, that one angles as well so your wrists are more open, and a normal keyboard my speed is the same about 120 wpm. Keychron actual modifies the Alice layout and moves out the arrow keys which would make a huge difference for me. I haven't tried one but might pick one up at some point. This is a great review on this, you definitely covered all the bases on pro and cons! Looking forward to your Ergo review!
FYI, the Hades switches must be purchased as an add-on for an additional $40. You cannot have the Hades come as the default switch your keyboard. I pre-ordered with $1, but will be asking for a refund and will not be backing the project. Their marketing has been misleading…
i got both the Halo96 and the Halo96 V2 with raspberry switch (just arrived today) and I’m telling you, it’s a huge difference, I screamed when I typed it, i have finally found my dream keyboard, it is creamyyy and smooth but still a bit thick like the sound you’d hear with ceramic keycaps but a little brighter and it just sounds amazing, although the spacebar sounds a little quieter than i’s like but lemme tell you it just sounds 100% better than my halo96 overall
The only thing really steering me away from the Gem80 is the clip-in stabs and the lack of a knob. The knob is not a complete deal breaker but everyone I know who's modded a Gem80 has complained a lot about the stabilisers.
I replaced the plate-mount stabilizers in mine with a set of Durocks and it was an improvement. Still not as nice as Durock V2/3 PCB-mounted that I usually use but better than the stock ones.
@@semiprotech I ended up grabbing the Q1 Max, but something tells me that I'll probably still get the Gem80 down the track and when that happens I'll certainly take your advice on the Durocks. Cheers 😉
I would prefer the Halo96 V2 because of VIA for remapping vs. the Aula software which I wasn't a huge fan of. From a hardware standpoint they are both nice options and the F99 has a little bit more room because it's an 1800 layout where the Halo96 has the compact 96% layout.
Received this combo kit today. I am blown away by the quality of the audio. I have a RODE wireless that’s about 4 yrs old. I can’t say that it’s better than the Lark M2. In fact, with my voice tone, I like the M2 better. Great review!
are you kiding me i love my elgato wave 3 low profile arm i stop using my rode psa1 normal arm it got in the way of my monitors glad i switch too low profile it also helps with my posture
6:00 the input on 3.5 sounded 3-4.5 dB lower, when you switched between. However 24 bit usb audio gives you 8bit more audio headroom, i.e. 6dB*8bit=48dB extra headroom or 144dB in total. Where 16bit gives you only 96dB total, before distortion kicks in. Hemce the rule 6dB per 1 bit.
I have been shopping for a keyboard for a week now and could not make up my mind. Just spent a couple hours watching your videos and this was the nail in the coffin to get the Air96 V2. Thanks for all your help and the discount code!
and .. the Hades is not an option as well. so it's not just "no tactile switch" but also "no silent switch". it's very misleading that they would launch the Hades with this keyboard because it us essentially like the other switches: separate buy.
I have both and although I like more the Nuphy96, I have to say in my opinion you sound like you sold (objectiveness in the comparison) your soul to Nuphy (I hope they pay you enough). Nobody whatsoever would use/take/rotate the knob as you did in the minute 5, the know is sensitive enough to be rotated by just using a single finger an slinding it by its side in a very gentile way.
