Ray Winstone is an absolute beast in this movie, swinging from shockingly vile to warmly sympathetic on the drop of a dime and selling both sides of a man equally well. It's a shame that the movie wasn't promoted very well in America, because Ray should've won an Oscar for this role, or at least a nomination. I suppose the film was just too raw for them given the type of British films that were "crossing over" here at the time (um...the Full Monty and Four Weddings, etc.).
I meet Ray when he was filming Nil by Mouth . I was a underpinner and concrete worker . I walked into the bar called the Blue anchor in South East London . I said to the bloke that's the actor from Scum . Ray was at the bar . He came over after Farrell said Ray, . They were filming Nil by Mouth
inspired by true events = also die ganze story stimmt nicht. man konnte wohl bei dem budget nichts gscheites machen, Röhrl wurde nicht mal angefragt. so kann man Kino auch kaputt machen.
Röhrl says that this film is the biggest rubbish he has ever seen. He said that he hopes he doesn't have Alzheimer's, because the film has absolutely nothing to do with his memories. A lot of it is ridiculous and wrong, and no one from production has ever contacted him to ask him about anything. Unfortunately, a huge opportunity was missed. The scene in which the Lancia 037 jumps over the hill and you can hear the engine sound of the Audi Quattro is very funny. Or the scene in which the Audi Quattro pulls the handbrake at the beginning of a bend - the Audis never had a handbrake that you could use while driving...
