So part of the problem is that at about this time the lore for WOW was still really messy I mean remember that this was not long after the mess that was Illidan in BC were you had half the dev team thinking that illidan was sargarus (this was why the story of BC was all over the place depending on what zone you where in. So based on that idea I can go with 2 ideas both involve the Naga, 1# this was a mess up from the devs regarding timeline as this was still the point we’re everything was TEN THOUSAND YEARS ago and what we see as mermaids are the Naga in a halfway point between high elf and lizard thing. 2# still a mess up from the devs about timeline and this was actually mermaids (you could say they were elementals to cover up the timeline mistake so when the Titans locked the elements away the mermaids went with them) and the Naga wiped them out as they both wanted the same seas, of course there shouldn’t be any life at this time as big tentacley monsters everywhere so they shouldn’t be depicted on stained glass.
As an old man that played since beta, i can tell you, this questline was one of my favourite stories I ever played through :D, still inspires some of my dnd campaigns :D
Just wanted to say I really enjoy your videos. I'm very busy with full time work, family and my other hobbies to consider playing WoW again. And besides, even I played again, I don't think I'd enjoy it as much as I think. But this game was apart of my formative years and remembering these quests is heart-warming. So thanks a bunch.
Remember trying to run to iron forge from goldshire at level 1 because I didn’t know about the tunnel, and dying about a million times but when I got there it was brew fest and I was hooked ever since, I must have been about 7 😂
Yeah, i guess this is the kind of stuff that goes under, when the focus of the game becomes sales and hype machine, you lose this degree of subtle content, for the shiny and flashy "end game", and it's not like this is not possible anymore, i see glimpses and good stories even in the current expac in Dornogal, there is potential, but it is too short, and most of those stories are resolved so quickly, you can't match the feel the initial zone of wow gave. I would have loved if the game continued to be focused on the world of the game, and had made good use of zones from both previous expansions and Azeroth itself, but along the years blizz have been way too focused on end game content, and the leveling experience ended up becoming more of a annoyance than a actual experience to them.
I know you only do classic stuff, but there's a mermaid skeleton on Exile's Beach (the new starting area) on retail. It's just the one and it appears to be an easter egg reference to The Little Mermaid, but hey, it's a mermaid.
i remeber when me and my irl friend, fired up wow for the first time. we tought the entire game was based around Darnasus, so taking the mount over to South shore was EPIC. No other game has created that feeling ever again, back then we understood shit this is gona be a epic Joruney. it was we clearned naxx back in the says. We no lifed it.
Such an amazing questing area. When I went through it on my human paladin, I just couldn't believed how much more fun, quicker and better it was compared to the Night-Elf questing zone on my first character. Since then, on both my other Night-Elf and Gnome alts, I always levelled up from Northshire. I did have to run, as a level 1 character, and attempt to escape their racial starter zone, which often resulted in body aggroing level 2 to 5 mobs and dying. Then release, run back and continue running for my life. But the time and sacrifice was a worthy investment. Once I reached Stormwind, I could run to Northshire and start questing as a level 2 or 3 gnome or night elf.... hehe yup, just by discovering new areas on my map would give enough XP to gain a level or 2 by the time I reached the human starter zone.
While I agree this partly true, there are some intresting quests and enviromental storytelling in both Horde Kalimdor and the Forsaken areas. For example the Shadow Council conspiracy and the Burning Blade, which might even inolve Mankirk. The quests in Lordaeron were laughbly evil compared to every other race in the game, which suited the character of the Forsaken. So I wouldn't say that the Horde quests were 100% unintersting. I belive the Tauren got the worst of it, the quests are quite dull BUT makes the starting starting zone for the Tauren quite nostalgic. You really get the feeling that you're sheltered from most of the conflicts in Azeroth. Cheers.
Ah, the Stormwind roundabout. It is actually the greatest continuous storyline in vanilla. It's like that was Blizzard's one good idea for a storyline and then they couldn't replicate it for other connected zones.
The letter carried by the Defias messenger provides more evidence for both the Stranglethorn pirate connection, and the Defias' need for metal, which could explain the Gnolls in Redridge taking the iron pikes etc. 'We need your supplies from the North. Strip everything: every railroad pike, every waterbucket. We need metal. A shipment is due from BB but long overdue. Come through for me, Blacknails. Send your supplies directly to the "barn" this time. No time to squander.'
Great video! I never made the connection between the various gnolls in Redridge and the Defias, but it seems so obvious now with the rivets and ore mentioned in those quests!
Nonchalance of vanilla devs regarding whether you understanding what's going on or not, it's stunning. It's what makes this game so great. Story on it's own is nothing special.
Nah, while they got screwed over, they show themselves to be just as bad if not worse by terrorizing and running innocent farmers off of their land. While the defias brotherhood started with the stone masons, it absorbed and recruited lot of brigands and thieves who had nothing to do with it. I will not stand for pro defias propaganda. Also they use zanzil's mixture to create mindless slaves.
I quit during phase 3 because of the 20-man raids. I didn't want to play on a schedule with a guild. It was so easy to find pub groups when it was 10-man. Now I'm waiting for the next seasonal server for a fresh start
Who else just stumbled over this new area when travelling without swift travel to bree after having not played for 4 years and went "huh?!?" AWESOME! X-D I did X-D
