My grandparents used to play this to me as a kid! There favourite holiday was Ireland travelling in there camper van. Happy memories and what an incredible folk song
Right now I am sitting at our local Irish pub as a scene unfolds in my mind, and in my mind and where I had and also writ about, where two fellows or fellas, Sean and Hans, as I am in Germany, start betting around and about while drinking a beer, brigitte the rather rusty and or rustic bartender and boss-in-secret comments it all, as now comes in the most jolly looking couple having the times of their lifes I would just suggest, holly on fellas and to ireland and or such and or so, I would say
A lot of likes to Luke Kelly. For me, he's alive in my mind, soul, and my heart. If you like/ love him , give him many and many 👍 👍👍👍👍😘🙌✨️💚🤍🧡🇮🇪🪕🎼🎶🎵. Luke deserves much more than our likes, 👍👍👍
How beautiful, I’m British born & bred, from generations, but it makes me terribly sad, of our history, but we must not try to judge & persecute for pat generations actions, I love this incredible man’s voice & words, just want peace on earth,
Lyrics As we gather in the chapel here in old Kilmainham Gaol I think about these past few weeks, oh will they say we've failed? From our school days, they have told us we must yearn for liberty Yet, all I want in this dark place is to have you here with me Chorus: Oh Grace, just hold me in your arms and let thismoment linger They'll take me out at dawn and I will die With all my love, I place this wedding ring upon yourfinger There won't be time to share our love for we must say goodbye Now, I know it's hard for you, my love, to everunderstand, The love I bear for these brave men, my love for thisDear land But when Pádhraic called me to his side down in theG.P.O. I had to leave my own sick bed, to him I had to go Chorus: Oh Grace, just hold me in your arms and let thismoment linger They'll take me out at dawn and I will die With all my love, I place this wedding ring upon yourfinger There won't be time to share our love for we must say goodbye Now as the dawn is breaking, my heart is breaking too On this May morn, as I walk out, my thoughts will be ofyou And I'll write some words upon the wall so everyonewill know I love so much that all I could see his blood upon theRose. Chorus: Oh Grace, just hold me in your arms and let thismoment linger They'll take me out at dawn and I will die With all my love, I place this wedding ring upon yourfinger There won't be time to share our love for we must say goodbye
Okay, I'm not adverse to the idea, and of course it's happening, so my opinion doesn't mean a thing, if we're all fans of the Dubliners we have polite disagreement, but is nobody else finding this uncomfortable and just weird, I'm 28, I understand it's for nostalgia, but then for who, are the elder generation going? Who are the youngsters coming? We do need a proper folk revival, especially here in the UK, but replicating a band that fathered it all, I don't think we need that, we need a new name if you ask me
Before anyone says anything, I'm not here to sow discord, I'm a big Dubliners fan and have been my entire musical life, it's just this I'm not too sure about
I'm young like yourself at 22. For me its an opportunity to somewhat experience what the gigs would have been like, yes its not the original group, for obvious reasons it cant be. But it gives us a chance to see what it would have been like. Having been handpicked and working directly with John and Phil, its sure as close as we are going to get. I get the arguments that it is recycled and redone, but it is not pretending to be anything else.
I've come back to this a good few times now. I love Luke's original but this is a beautiful version in its own right. A beautiful poem by Patrick Kavanagh given a new lease of life by some fantastic musicians and singers.
MOST young women want a YOUNG MAN. Most marriages otherwise are built on a foundation of unscrupulous intentions. Doesn't hurt to also have a husband around when a young maid has his children, & gets up in years, instead of in the grave long before she is.
