@Nikki i believe Ina May Gaskin and the women around her altered the term to diminish the negativity surrounding the word contractions. I read her original edition ~1984, 1985, and both of my children were born at home. grateful for the exposure to alternative ideas at a young age. 🌿
Breeding is murder and non-essential. Nobody "needs" to have kids. I am a hardcore Antinatalist and Antinatalist Animal Rights Vegan (AARV). I support war and government laws against breeding animals for human consumption and against humans making babies. I support mandatory vasectomy and mandatory abortion laws. China proved we could do this with their short-term One Child Law, but China did not continue this law long enough. Breeders are too arrogant and selfish to comprehend that when they breed, they murder a new human, who did not consent to being born. Nothing wrong with Pharmaceutical industry. Nobody is forcing anybody to take drugs. Stop attacking the hard-working drug industries. Stop the DEA anti-drug fascists. Stop the War on Drugs. But support the FDA that does the hard work of testing and proving what drugs actually do good and are safe. There is much wisdom from drug companies about molecules and how molecules interact with our bodies.
I always felt more like the biggest warrior queen during labour - facing the pain head first, brave and strong. What fuelled me was and is the absolute belief that natural birth is THE best start into this worldly life for my babies and me their mother
Don't you also think more women want to avoid childbirth because the facts are more readily available? There's still a culture of keeping the unpleasant truths hushed up in case it scares people and stops them wanting children - but wasn't it even more the case a few decades ago? Anyone can Google mortality rates or perineal tears today, before you had to go on what your mother knew and if she was willing to share it with you.
Back then people had relationships where they actually knew things. People are still having children in this high information age they are just maybe more anxious. I had a 2nd degree tear twice and didn't feel it but I did feel the stitches and I had no pain medication and I also had C-section, three.
Their is an important PRE-natal point I learned from Ina May that seems its importance is not enough told / recognized. I was a single dad with two toddlers who stayed on The Farm a couple months or so in either 1975 or 76. While there I witnessed a few highly traumatized women who had come to The Farm as a result of an add that offered a third approach to unwanted pregnancies; come to The Farm and we'll house, feed and birth your baby for free and then you can leave with or without your newborn and if later you regret leaving without you can return for your little one - no questions asked (as I understood things) or else we'll foster-raise your child. My experience of watching the trauma in those faces just vanish completely over a few weeks changed forever the future course of my life or otherwise I firmly believe I (as a later successful business starter) I would most likely have become a wealthy asshole. So what do I think was so important that seems too overlooked? A culture which revolves around pregnancy and children where both the whole pregnancy THRU childbirth appears like a sacred-sacrament to BOTH that cultures females AND males. As my decades passed I accidentally stumbled on a few of these add-response ladies who loved to relate that it was that The Farm Culture that changed their lives; I myself had watched a few of those faces undergo this transformation from fear and pain to calmness and confidence from a feeling of being so respected and loved as they had never before experienced. Where such a culture does not exist around you; there is no reason that such emphasis can't be created even just within your own home and immediate contacts as the OTHER most important aid to childbirth.

Wow, there are much more violent examples of what can happen in an institutional setting and birth rape is real. One it takes a sensitive woman to experience some of this stuff to even relate or believe other women’s stories.

There is a 2000 year old blueprint for *LOCAL* assembly left by the apostles, in a tidy package called the New Testament. The structure for *LOCAL* assembly is the perfect, censorship free forum as it has built in accountability. This exists nowhere else -real, corruption free, community and hardly anyone seems the wiser. It is waiting to be put into practice by men and women who think deeply.
I wish this video could be distributed to every Crisis Pregnancy center in the world. They have the donations and money and just are not addressing the issue of fear in women who choose to abort their babies. If women can learn how beautiful birthing can be and that they are perfectly designed to birth, and how wondrous it all can be, abortion rates would plummet.
I have believed for years that one of primary factors in decisions to abort a baby is the fear of childbirth. Thank you for affirming that while so many don’t get it and don’t want to.
