Driving Northern California roads with no music or comments.
I love tiny twisty California roads, riding on a motorcycle or driving in a Miata. I want to share these experiences with my viewers, unaltered, 5 minutes at a time.
There's a bit of buildup of low-frequencies on deccel in 1-2 gears around 2K RPM. RB themselves write about that "low RPM frequencies can be more pronounced in the 2000-1500 RPM range (especially noted in 2nd gear "parking lot" deceleration)". The only time when it is noticeable in a conscious way is 2nd gear slow crawl on highway next to a wall. I honestly cannot call that a drone. To me drone is a resonance when driving steady on highway/level street. I have not noticed that at all.
i have this same back box as i wanted to get away from the 2 pipes. i love the exhause but i wanted a bit more "snarl" so ive then fitted a BBR decatt downpipes and a quick remapp to remove the pre catt code and it's brought the sound to how i wanted
Thanks for the request :) I try to avoid single-lane roads which sees traffic. 236 towards Big Basin is sketchy if driven spirited. I go there sometimes for vibes, I captured some of my most favorites photos there, but I drive very chill :)
Thank you for a terrific video. I had a Sport/Race on a previous 2016 Club, and will install another one on a 2024 Club that just arrived. Then and now, I chose it for the deep, non-raspy tone and lack of drone
@@isocuda true! Funny enough that was one of the biggest motivators for me to record and publish it. I wouldn’t bother if there was already a ton of similar ones.
Now we need you to do this same video with the other 20 mufflers 😂@@miatapov I'm waiting on my ND3 to arrive and have been debating the Racing Beat Sport/Race or the GWR Superstreet. Now I typically on NB's do RB Header, midpipe, and power pulse single tip. Which is a little bit of everything and fine for daily usage. I did have a GWR Roadstersport 4 midpipe and muffler with the RB Header on one of my NBs and I instantly hated it. Like diarrhea launched out of a trumpet 🎺 So there's plenty on the SSST and other variants, but this is the first ind depth comparison of the RB sport/race so it's greatly appreciated 👍
@@isocuda thanks for kinds words :D No promises, and no timeline, but I'll try to get at least some recording of GWR SSST on the same mic. That way it'll be somewhat apples-to-apples :)
Hey, really cool videos! I own a 2019 GTS... I'm trying to decide on an exhaust for the same and your choice is interesting and a bit off the beaten path since I haven't seen a lot of people on the forums do the RB sport/race . I was wondering if you could comment on the loudness particularly at freeway speeds and any drone? Have you had the chance to listen to this exhaust in direct comparison to any of the goodwinracing stuff?
Thank you for your comment, I enjoyed reading it :) Yeah. GWR is name of the game. I gave Racing Beat a try because (a) didn't want to go by the beaten path, same as you (b) they're the only ones who publish db measurements for their mufflers (c) they're local to CA, I called them and they seem to be chill folks (d) muffler is reasonably cheap, so if I don't like I can swap with something else. I did hear GWR SuperStreet single tip on another car and I thought it'd a bit too loud for me. I think this one is in-between HKS Legamax Premium and GWR SuperStreet single tip. I'm going to go to a Miata meet-up in a week or so, hopefully will have a chance to compare in person. On highway it's like extra lower-frequency background from the back of the car, you hear it, but it's not making a substantial difference to my ears in terms of overall noise level. The only scenario I found where it's noticeably louder on highway is 2nd gear slow traffic, and especially so if moving next to a wall. BTW, I just published the video about the exhaust, check it out :)
It's Racing Beat Sport/Race axleback (part 56478 for my Miata), everything else is stock. All the videos starting from ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AwJEjRZthcE.html (Hwy9 front) and later in the channel are with this muffler. The mic is in different spots though, and that changes what parts of the sound is emphasized (intake vs exhaust) in the recordings. The mic in this video is literally next to the exhaust, and naturally exhaust is the only thing it recorded. In reality exhaust is heard but it is not as dominant. However, it's quite challenging to record changes in pitch on accel/deccel throughout the rev range in any other mic position. I'm probably 2/3 way through recording the video for the muffler showcase. Stay tuned, time permitting it should be in a week give-or-take.
was with my brother and a friend here about a month ago and my brother flipped his car and totaled it at night while i was in my friends 350z stay safe a drive safe, nice car<3
Thanks! I used standard GoPro mount using two-side 3M tape. Location is between driver seat and the roof release latch. Tuning the height of the camera is tricky. If the camera is too low then road are not visible. If the camera is too high then it bounces too much. I can't attach a photo to show it, I'll make a short video to show details of the setup.
