Polishing your Penmanship - The focus of the project is to give an understanding of the mechanics of modern cursive handwriting through online workshop tutorials. www.penmanship.com.au
Her comment about recognizing a person's handwriting is the same as hearing a person's footsteps. The human brain's capacity to recognize patterns is a marvel.
A page handwritten by Barbara shot from different angles is a must to preserve the legacy and see live what these lessons can do to your penmanship.... Must accompany a handwriting video wherein you write a page Barbara.
I can only express my regret that this is the last lesson. You can watch these lessons all your life and still find something useful for yourself. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Barbara!
Nice Video. Mind the Typo in the upper left - Paeleography ==> Paleography or better Palaeography. On the side, an aunt of mine was a professional Palaeographer in Switzerland and a Professor at Fribourg University. 5:09
Ohhhh I just found you! I have been practicing my penmanship without any guidance, trying to copy others works. I love you videos and plan to buy the book. Thanks so much for you channel. Liked and subscribed!!!!!
Thank you Barbara for keeping us up to date. I look forward to coming back down and using my Sailor Pen (purchased from you) for when I undertake your course(s). I just need to see what is going to happen with work but also my illness I have and still going through where I potentially will likely need to use the money I have.
Subscribed. 🇨🇦 At 78, I still write cursive, still have the same rather clunky style I learned in grade 4 or 5. Not much in the way of artistic embellishments, but I have received some compliments on how legible my cursive is. I own a lovely Waterman, don't use it enough. I'm hoping your channel will change that.
I’m fortunate to to be in the generation that required handwriting. Penmanship was taught by Mr. White in the 6th grade. In this day of iPads, iPhones etc. I often thank Mr. White. I am left handed so my question is how do you respond to that in your classes?
Guilty of all of these! I look now and the script alternates between cursive and print. So, it’s OK to lift the pen? Excellent! I do believe that I need to go back to basics and learn to form the letters correctly and individually. My original learning style is lost in the 1960’s but I do remember getting bullied into Italics by one teacher that was inflexible no matter how tidy the original cursive was. I think this may have been the beginning of descent into disorder and the subsequent loss of caring. I do intend to redeem this! 👍🏻
I am now subscribed. At least I can say my grip appears to be correct but I still struggle with neat cursive writing. I believe I need to reform the characters I learnt 55 years or more ago, and to correct some bad habits that make the writing look cramped. I can say that relaxation appears to be the key and will try to stay in the moment by slowing things down and being more deliberate. 👍🏻
I love good handwriting but my own is highly variable which is not helped by arthritis. My innermost self can also be somewhat chaotic as the brain tends to run faster than the hand. I have resolved to improve this at 65 by purchasing some good fountain pens and methodically working toward consistency. 👍🏻
The upstroke at the end of the letter "u" is somewhat irritating. Is it the ligature for the next letter - namely a semi - separate sign? Or is it to be considered part of the letter "u" itself? In which case, how us the letter "u" to be ended, when no letter follows?
With all due respect, but are you really sure, that the word "phon ..." derives from "Phoenician" ? I was under the impression, that the word stems from the Greek word for "sound" (phon)
Please make a video wheren you write a page or a to do list using a ball point or a biro.... This will show practicality of your system to the world. Thank you
It is outstanding how such simple things matter most in handwriting. A well coordinated writer may not know this as it is automatic now but the ones struggling in good handwriting know its importance.
I'm so glad you made these videos... I bought your book years ago, and it's helped tremendously. My children are learning from your methods, too. Thank you!
Barbara, do you have any videos explaining in detail left hand hold of a pen? I watched one when you mentioned it briefly. It would be so helpful if you could talk about the difficulty of writing cursive for left-handed people like myself and how we can tackle some of these issues.
I like more a rounder base parte of the "a" 'ending' near the center of the right vertical base line. This produces a more eliptical na natural form and a more balanced letter; because, the parts are more simetrically mirrored. Upper left curve seens like lower right; same upper right like lower left. But, nowadays if this a turn into reality of handwriting it would be a glory, at least it has some strong rules to be followed.
