Hi all, thanks for clicking on my profile. The video clips I publish on RU-vid are mainly for testing purposes of my video gear and discussing the results with my friends. Feel free to watch them or even subscribe to my channel, but don't be surprised of the content ;-)
This was a good introduction to me - despite the overcast sky. You speak rather slowly, mention the important things (without too much other details), on a beginners level, which makes it VERY easy to follow and learn.
I'm starting exactly this trip on the MS Maud in 5 days. Thanks for the professional video, the travel descriptions and the additional information including the AI translations. A pleasant way to travel this wonderful country by ship. Best regards - Claus
@@Sockeye404 thank you for your quick answer. My Nikon has auto exposure smoothing when i use the inbuild interval. i am not shure this works when you use the polaris app to do the work 2 to 3 hours by hand change the exposure and iso is difficult for me .
@@voederbietels Check out the (now working) "Holy Grail" Function. With that the Polaris adjusts the exposure according to light level. I use it e.g. for day -> night transition timelapses. Of course this does not deliver 100% smooth results. (but anyway better results than any autoexposure functions I know of) But you still need to adjust the sequence with the app "LRTimlapse". I wanted to make a video for it but somhow I did not manage to find the time to cut the video 🙂
Sir, my Astro module does not point in the right direction. The base unit does. It’s way off the mark when I connect the Astro module. Is there a fix? I wrote to Benro and they weren’t much help, asking me to ship it to Cona and bear expenses.
I have battled mine since it first came out. So many cliffs I nearly tossed it over! BUT the reality is that you cannot get the same stability and auto leveling from a Star Adventurer style tracker. Once you put on the gear to a star adventurer to make the tracker function for astro panos the camera wobbles in the wind. So I use the GD Benro - WITH my personal intervalometer and manually adjusting my camera settings. It's a star tracker. That's all.
@@spirithealershamanism i am going to buy the benro. (omg) but dont you auto calibrate polarin on a star or planet to shoot the milkyway? only as a tracker i dont think i understand how you make your shots than. i do only want to use it as a tracker for the same reasons like you.
mine wont power on or charge after having it a week. absolute dogshit mount that i cant believe they're able to sell with so many problems. The forum is full of people who cant get it to work. Would never recommend to people thinking about this unit.
You are German, correct? So I will type in German: Bei etwa 3:30 zeigst Du, wie man kalibrieren kann.
Great tutorial. One sentence made my day after a long attempt of failed attempt make it work. The calibration should be done by facing the camera; which is not obvious. I was keep on doing it from the other direction and the tracker was always 180° off and such large manual adjustment was not helping. Thank you for making it. However, coming from a more traditional tracker where we align the tracker and them the camera using a tripod; I am finding this a bit different concept on how to compose it properly!
Benro has fixed the bug and now the settings can be smoothly changed in the app. Although it is now quite convenient with the histogram, I am still looking forward to the (promised but still missing) automatic adjustment. But regardless of that, my Genie Mini is collecting dust... do you want ot buy one?
If the Benro is getting JPGs from the camera and it is controlling the camera via USB, it should be able adjust exposure settings automatically based on the images and the histogram. It’s surprising it doesn’t have that ability.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful job. I really wanted sombody show his timelapse. will be appreciated if you share another timelapse next time soon. from South Korea
Thank you for sharing this beautiful work: congratulations! It is in my intentions to start timelapse and this very well done explanation of yours will allow me to be more prepared. One question: can you recommend a dummy battery for the Nikon D850? Thank you
Sorry, I do not have a Nikon but I presume any dummy having the form-factor of the battery will do. The important thing is, you use a good power delivery (PD) power bank, capable to constantly provide the required voltage and current for the Nikon. (I had tried different power banks I already owned, but they either did not power my Canon at all or the camera shut down when the power consumption increased (8K video, highspeed shots))
Don't ask those of Benro so much, first what they have to do is make Benro work well, and that what they promised works, don't ask them for more things that we throw away years and years to do just one thing well.
Well they promised the video mode and thats my focus. Apart from the "holy grail" (Day/night transition) which is still missing, everything else works fine for me.
Nice video! I have had the same thoughts about the lack of function in video mode. I did send a message to the developers asking if they could do something similar to the panolaps function. Setting a start and finish point for the movement and during what time. Hope this will be implemented! :)
So this works with an iPad? Is there any particular model of iPad that would work better and his iPad memory and issue? I've never owned one, so sorry for my ignorance. I do have an iPhone, but I need a larger screen to look at because of my eyesight.
As long as it has GPS & compass, any current model will do. If you have the cellular Polaris, you should consider using a cellular iPad (with SIM card)
@@Sockeye404 Did you have to purchase an HDMI to USB-C cable? I tried the provided USB-C to UBC-C and I keep getting a message that I need to connect the camera. I do have a cellular iPad but don't really want to add a line to my account, hoping to use my iPhone as hot spot.
@@barbbarton121 I use the Canon R5 and it works fine but I have no information on issues with the GH5, neither in the forum nor in the FB group. It should work fine with the (correct) USB-C cable.
@@Sockeye404 Thanks for responding. Talked to the folks at Benro today and they said I needed to add the original cable that came with the camera and attach it to the OTG cable and that should work. Didn't work. I will prevail. Thanks for posting this video!
Well done. Thanks for the clear instructions. I was missing one critical piece of information and you covered it! My Polaris is now functioning perfectly! Can't thank you enough for this video.
