“This is Rodney Dangerfield, and you’re listening to WBCN, and if you’re not, then I don’t get any respect at all. The other day I tried to buy rat poison, the cashier asked do-you want to wrap it up or do you want to eat it here.” 😂
When did they improve this place by installing doors on both sides of the unit that they rent to Peppy's Pizza that allow patrons to walk between the two game rooms?
Hey Geoff, Charles moved to the San Francisco area several years ago to be closer to family. He does have a facebook page and is very active. Plus, there are 2 Remembering WBCN FB Groups if you want to relive the early days. Thx.
early 2000's commercial energy was amazing. Commercials alone introduced you to a world of music you didn't know you needed more of in your life till these dropped!
Exactly. The story was first picked up in the 90s by the news and they posted the telephone number that the guy who found the telephone booth first, had posted it on his website and people just started calling. So people started going out there and answering the phone and talking to people around the world. If you really want to learn about how it all started (way before i and the radio station got involved) Start here: www.deuceofclubs.com/moj/mojave1.htm
I didnt realize BCN has been gone for so long. I moved out of Massachusetts many years ago and forgot about WBCN, I was really upset to find out it was no longer. There will never be another station that can even come close to what WBCN used to be. Thank you for posting these videos.
I've Collected Records for over 50 Years. My first LOU REED Record was Transformer. My Mom bought it on 8 track. I wore that record out. I bought it on Vinyl and would listen to it in my Bedroom. The next record was Berlin. It blew me away. Still Does. Today it's viewed as a Masterpiece. Caroline Says ll just Rocked my world. Lou was way ahead of everyone. Love this interview. Lou is so witty and intelligent. Funny as Hell. One of my favorite Artist. As Time goes by I appreciate Lou Genius. I grew up on Lou Reed . Seen him play 4 times . Different each time. He was so Cool. This interview is a gem. Lou is in a good space. Relaxed and spot on. He looks great. There would be no Bowie, Iggy or T Rex or Roxy Music without Lou Reed.
I did not go out to the booth because Carrie called, I had no idea who she was, I had been at the Phonebooth for weeks, she was one of many radio DJ's that called me while I was there 👍🙂
I am from Marblehead as well grew up on Pickwick Rd. I also grew up on fluff sandwiches as well. Finally found them selling them at my local Target here in Florida.
Lou was easily one of the most intelligent rockstars, of all time. I must admit that intelligence is sexy to me. It was what first attracted me to my boyfriend, initially. We have been together for over just two years, now. We are definitely soulmates. Thanks Uncle Lou, I guess?🤣
It took me years to find that little cow creamer !!!! Got him on ebay , about 5 years ago . Must have seen thousands of black & white cow objects !!!!!!
I grew up in Marblehead with the Harrington’s as neighbors and had my first job dishwashing at Rosalie’s. I then was a busboy, waiter, and eventually a bartender and valet and also remember attending a cooking class with Rosalie when I was in 5th or 6th grade. Nice memories.
