The British were over-taxing America to wage a war with France. The Americans had enough and left the conflict, making their own country. As the war raged on in Europe, for something like 40 more years, America stayed out of it. So when France wanted America to use its measures, America saw it as another bid for world domination and said no. America does things its own way, and no other sovereign nation is going to tell it what to do. The French, the British, the Germans, no one, absolutely no one tells America what to do. They are their own country and the French don't own the world, so they don't get to force everyone to use the Metric System. You Metric System pushers, do you think Napoleon should have won and taken over the world? No? Did you know Napoleon helped start the Metric System? What next, are you going to find something the Germans were doing in WWII and try to force the rest of the world to do it now?

On the whole, segment by segment, SNL has always been hit or miss. But there's always gold in them thar hills. You just have to sit thru some crap to find it.

These are actually really low IQ jokes. There's good reasons for the different units of measurement. If you research the history of science and engineering, it makes sense. You don't mention Kelvin since you don't expect much from your audience.

Weekend update is as good and sometimes better than when Norm did it. Outside of that their presidential impressions are still great (Jim Gaffigan as Walz was an inspired choice, Jim Carey as Biden, and I am convinced Maya Rudolph is actually the one running for president). But yeah no reason to watch it otherwise. This sketch wasnt even that funny, a little clever but not that funny.
I'm not their biggest fans either but I'm glad they exist to push back against the left, much like how Howard stern pushes against the old right as it was.
