@@mebeadamb Well, We think it's pretty well built and you won't have to deal with the Complications of trying to get the rear shock set up for your weight. I have a friend who weighs around 290 and getting the rear shock dialed as a struggle. You might look into a stronger set of wheels if you plan on getting extremely aggressive. If not the stock wheels should serve you.
What are your thoughts on using that on a bike that has rear suspension for and old guy with a sore back? Not for raceing just every day trail and dirt road riding?
@@yohon1550 You're not going to get as much drop out of this post as you would a standard dropper post. However , If taking a little more beating off your lower back is what's your after it might be worth a try. It certainly added more comfort to this hard tail fat bike.
@@mountainbikeondemand the only reason I haven’t bought it yet is that I think that FS would be better for my knees (bad knees) but don’t know how true this would be …
@@yavornikolov6965 If you're going to use it primarily as an off-road machine, you might prefer a suspension with your bad knees Especially if you are going to ride a lot of roots and rocks. For commuting I would rather have a hard tail.
Are you saying you want us do do a video on one that's internally routed? For sure, internal is cleaner but our frame wasn't setup from the factory for an internally routed dropper cable. We were lucky PNW makes an externally routed one.
@@Thedownhillboys Gavin thinks for being so great to work with! We'd love to film with you more in the future. If that's something you'd be interested in shoot me a message on our facebook page through messenger.
@@jacobbowman8375 Thanks for making the video more exciting to watch! If you'd be in to doing more in the future , shoot me a message on our Facebook page
The stairs to get into the skills area are a LOT of fun! Knock out the curb at the beginning of the ridge line so you can have a few more pedal strokes in. Also knock out the curb at the stairs. But for a skills area it is a lot of fun at any level.
Alaskan fat tire bike rider here. I started biking doing freestyle bmx as a child. The kid in me now said we should bring it to the skatepark. I can actually do 180s on the quarter pipes and jump the box jump with it. In summer it’s mainly used to tow my kids around and go get groceries
I bought the frame, I can't wait for it to arrive so I can assemble the bike and try it out, I'm interested in the difference between my Bergamont Revox and Salsa.
@@TheCyclingVet Juat got one for my wife on sale. It's a great time to buy a bike. Right now the SLX is only $300 0less than the Z2. Z2 is a no brainer right now.
Are you saying in 2018 they went to 120 MM with 29 by 2.6? We are in 2024 now and I have a chance to buy this bike and am checking what was said in the video. Thank you very much.
Climbs are just as difficult if not more so. Very rudy and rocky although they have been working on it lately. There is some flow but not like Devou. Good place to increase your strength and skill set.But not not our first choice if you're looking for something a little easier. If you're looking for a challenge hit it up.
And I had a rhino light rim on the front of my bike when I got hit by a truck and it barely separated at the seam the truck was going 60 k/m/h and I was going 20 k signed nick
In our next video we're going to do a shootout between this modernized Santa Cruz Heckler and 20 year newer hardtail trail bike to see if modern geometry trumps old-school full suspension.
Nice bike, sounded a bit much like a pnw advertisement 😂 Not fond of their pedals the shape is very weird the axle is higher than the cage it doesn't feel secure at all.
LOL I wish PNW would have spent some money on advertising. It's cool to hear your take on the pedals. I, we like adjustable pins. I needed stitches a couple years back from a different set of flat pedals. This Heckler was pretty cool though. Wish I owned it but glad I had the chance to ride it before filming it. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts.
Thanks for watching. I'm sure if we saw you again we'd remember, but there were quite a few people at the trail that day. 😂 Greg was definitely the right pick for this video. He was going easy on my bike because I've seen him take MUCH larger jumps in his own GoPro videos. This was perhaps our best bike build project yet. Can't wait to do another. 😍
@@mountainbikeondemand Because you responded, I watched it again. Lol Almost funnier the second time. The tongue-in-cheek humor and the whole style of everything is great. Nice mix of pro narrating and goofiness. I hope y'all make more like this
@@YIO777 Really glad you got some laughs out of it. We left our butts off making it. Just sort of happened organically. It's what happens when you have three guys with a good sense of humor get together. Hopefully lightning can strike twice.
I'd have to say we have considered it. Now we're thinking about it again. The tire swap made such a huge improvement while still providing compliance it almost seems unnecessary unnecessary. It would be a great experiment though.
To answer your question, the Wren It's a little less expensive, If it's nice and rigid with very little flex, the travel is adjustable and the spring rate and ramp up are very tunable without going into the fork. We are sure that the manitou is a good fork but wanted to try something different. We paid retail by the way. If the sport was not sent for evaluation. So far so good. We did a review on this bike after we finished the build along with carving out the individual part that covered the fork. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bK6n5_KBYsc.htmlfeature=shared
It used to get ridden on wet days when I didn't want to get the full suspension all grimy. Now it's just plain fun, especially on tight twisty trails. Fat bikes make great trail bikes once you set them up. Do you currently own a fat bike?
Ahh I remember this, the box components shifting is very decent indeed, gear ratios are very similar to 12-speed although the big jumps are obvious, and definitely for those willing to try the wide gear range without the need of 12 speed.
I love my Catalyst pedals too (and the Catalyst XLs I have on another bike). Wish they hadn't gotten so expensive, though. I'm currently on a Fatback Rhino that I got with a 100mm Mastodon fork and 26x4.8" Jumbo Jims. I have wondered what it would be like to add some travel at the front, and wonder how much narrower tires might help with some things...but I really like the cushiness the big tires give over bumps (my other off road bike is a Jones that I just upgraded to 29x3.25s). I threw on a 40 tooth oval ring from Wolftooth and an Eagle cassette and it's treated me pretty well......but I don't corner fast anyway.
Sounds like you have a couple of nice bikes. The Jumbo Jims look like they would be great performers. The tires and fork made a huge difference. Super pumped on how the bikes performance turned out.
While not an over the top dream build, We've certainly been dreaming of performing these upgrades on our Salsa Beargrease for a few years. We can't wait to see how all the performance adds up in part 2. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
Sorry to hear that. We don't believe that the mountain bike community are in charge of taking care of the pump track. It would be nice to have it groomed. We were there recently. The trails were in excellent condition.
Thanks for watching and sharing your experience with the bike. We really loved how this bike monster trucked over everything but was still a very efficient peddler.
😂😂😂 only just saw this comment Adam. I can't believe it took almost 5 years for someone to say it. We were so impressed with the first couple takes of filming the tower that we had to do it again and get the pass just right. I guess God decided to throw a little bling in front of the camera. It couldn't have worked out better. We got really lucky with a few of the shots used in the first minute or so.
