Restoration done by Bill Childress AKA Doubleodude in his two car garage at home. I have had a love for old vintage VW's my entire life. I bought my first one in 1987 for $50 dollars and was able to get it back on the road and I was hooked. Over the last 30 years I've owned at least 40 different air-cooled Volkswagens. I've slowly learned to build engines, do body work and even paint cars. I want to share what I have learned and bring you guys along. Restoring air-cooled Volkswagens is slowly becoming more and more difficult as the cars age. Rust repair and panel replacement is becoming more common. We also face problems with quality replacement parts becoming difficult to find. But with a little patience you can do it. I hope you enjoy the channel and let me know how I'm doing. I love the two toned engine. That clean and shiny bronze is pleasing to the eye. And the well tuned sound of the engine is nice too. Good choice of music as well. I like everything thing here
You ask What the patch work to the cabinet was at 14 min. The cabinet is for a early bay and the fillerneck is right there. I love to see your videos. 😊👍
@@rustydubbs Yes, now we're finally moving on by bus. In the summer there were too many other things that needed time. It's continuing now in the fall, I hope to get the beginning edited together for the weekend
Hell yeah dude. I think you inspired me to set a goal of going to busses by the bridge. Its august now and hopefully that gives me enough time to get the bus ready.
Oh man, what a story..... but in the end everything will be okay...... and something learned again.... never take the engine apart when it is installed 😂
I just didn’t have enough room. Type motors are big and difficult to drop without doing in combination with transmission. I’m looking forward to your next video.
@@rustydubbs Yes, I know the space problem all too well. and the type 4 is actually bigger than the type 1. But luckily you did it, even if it was difficult
Whoo hoooo! Congrats! That's such a good feeling when you hit the switch and everything seems good! And I hear you changed that damn battery in your smoke detector! Ha!
I know right. It's sitting on my bench right now. It had fallen behind a cabinet. I was hoping it was going to die. A week later I moved half my junk to rescue it to regain a little piece in my garage.
Sure, looks like a fun project. I have two VW bugs and I love them. It is a lot of work, but oh so worth it, when you're driving the car down the road, and you realize that you made it possible. Like you said take your time, don't rush. Thanks for the video.
