Hitchhiked a few times in Alaska back in the 70s. Did decline rides a few times just because I had a bad feeling about them. They were clean cut looking, polite but something just didn't feel right. 6th sense, God, intuition, etc. Luckily never had s problem. Got lectured a few times as I was 19 but looked 16. I have always enjoyed this program when I first saw it, mainly because no matter how hard I tried, I could never fit in when I went to school in the seventies and eighties. It was a horrible experience. It's not a matter of who was right or who was wrong, tho. It's about who you are in relation to those around you. I hesitate to say fitting in. She was still who she was, but it was just a matter of moving on from clubhouses, pigtails and model airplanes. You know if she and momma went camping (and that was pretty much the whole point there. Momma made an excuse for why she couldn't do it, because she didn't want to do it, so it was pretty much never brought to Kath's attention that something like that was available, which obviously Kath would have no problem doing it). She still maintained her defiance with the bottle cap tho. I'm amazed Mom didn't see her take that knife down from her hair. Curls on little girls eventually went out of style as well.
