We had 14 diesel mostly 2,O00 Cat 3616 gen sets ,4 Cat natural gas 3616 gen sets that only ran at 1200 RPM for load shaving & back up power and a 800 KW CAT natural gas gen set for an office that was just another PIG CAT GAS generator. This pig did not have much load on it and CAT could not regulate the voltage from being above 505 volts so they had to add a load bank to bring voltage down so 6 ATS switches would be able to switch back to normal power after monthly test. Even after they spent over a million dollars rebuilding the 4 760 KW CAT PIG natural generators & controls these POS had trouble running load bank at only 650 KW. especially during warm or hot weather. Had five tines more problems with the 5 CAT natural gas gen sets then the 14 great running CAT gen sets combined.My boss told me to never attempt to run a natural gas gen set more then 90% of rated power. You would think that a load bank that is always has a100 power faster could handle rated load for halve a hour.
