Hi and thank you for visiting my Channel. In my fifties now and completely new to RU-vid, for many years have enjoyed making/restoring furniture and building scale models in my workshop. I have a background in Architecture and as a result built many static scale models of buildings in the past.
This took me naturally into a great hobby of designing and building dioramas for models. I simply ran out of space and sold off most of the models and dioramas built over many years, including large dioramas for the 6 inch scale Star Wars figure series, planes, large scale static train models and some WW2 vehicles.
Never having been into RC models and with my workshop relatively clear again, I have decided to embark on a new challenge; building large 1:6 scale tanks and models. The first of which is the Armortek late Variant Tiger 1.
Follow me on this new journey where I have to learn new skills to overlap my existing knowledge and experience which I hope also helps and inspires you.
Sorry to see that you are “winged” but no apologies are necessary regarding video content. Don’t compromise your recovery trying to make more videos, we can survive a few weeks without new content (probably 😂).
Sorry that you broke your wrist. I’ve always wanted to play badminton somehow but never got around to do it. I was playing squash but that was so intense I eventually grew a bit too old for it.
Thank you. I’ve played it for at least 30 years… slowed down a lot now but still enjoy it… even though I broke my wrist, I will definitely return to the game as soon as I can. Thanks also for watching and supporting my channel.
Hi Carl and Thankyou for watching and commenting. I still have the train and some of the planes… sold off of gave away most of the others to make space.. I am starting what I am calling “an in between “ project next week, which is a bolt together project, but huge and pretty awesome. Hope you tune in to watch this project whilst I wait to heal and get back on my series 1.
@@FloridaKeysPirate hi and thanks for commenting. Yes 1/6 scale and it is huge… one of my favourite builds… but working on more. Hope you tune in to watch more of the same.
"You are forgiven of corse my old son, jus don doit gain awright? Uverwise we ave to take you round to Dinsdales place for conversation. No whatimean? " You silly bugger Tony, I hope it mends quickly. Not a doctor, but an ambulance officer for 28 years and I can see the swelling and bruising on camera. Did you manage to get your ring off before the swelling or did the A & E staff have to cut it off? I do hope the former. Now try and take it a little easy mate.🤞👍👍
Hi Christopher… duly noted🤣 I took my wedding ring off as soon as I did it. I heard it crack and knew straight away. I’m lucky as it was a clean fracture and no need for pins… just this cast for another four weeks…. Hopefully 🤞thanks for your amazing support mate… it’s very much appreciated.
😂sorry about that… you should go ahead and order one… it is a great kit. I’ll will be back on the build as soon as I can… still tune in next week as I start an “in between “ build which is less challenging with a broken wrist. Thanks for watching and supporting my channel.
Thankyou… yes… I met a woman in the fracture clinic who broke her leg just stepping down one step and falling.. she has a long recovery as they put 8 pins in her!!!… crazy how easy it is…. 15 years playing rugby and never broke a limb! Thanks for your kind words and support. Hope you tune in next week to see my “in between” project.
That was certainly worth it though...the small details really make it. You have mentioned numerous times that you have built other things like large scale trains etc. Do you still have them? Maybe a unique video on showing us what else you have built in the past would be easier while your wrist is in cast?
Hi tony ,must be a ARMy thing but that has to be the best video yet. im so glad the Land rover is right HAND drive otherwise you'd be buggered. Joking apart glad to see that your good lady finally twisted you arm and got you gardening 😂😂😂
Hi Tony, a broken wrist is no fun, I feel your pain there. Well done getting that bench in, that looks like it would have been a pain in the hole even with two hands mate. Rest up mate.
Tony: Sorry to see you with a broken wing, take your time to heal old friend, I didn't and now have to have my left thumb rebuilt and a new joint made. Take it slow and things will get done. All of us who watch you do your builds have faith in you.
hi tony, sorry to see that you broke your wing, hope you heel quickly. i to f & blind a lot, annoyingly it does not seem to help, in fact it often gets worse, a break for a cuppa does wonders. do have a look for the mini nut drivers, they are very cheap, simply preload the nut in the driver, often some bluetak stuck in the driver first can be helpful to hold the nut in place when held vertically, also as i mentioned before you can get some squeeze to release tweezers which can be very helpful. if you would like to see some pictures of my jeeps, send me your email. cheers
A break from play definitely does help. I’m away with the grandkids at the moment. I’ll send you my email when I get back next week. Thanks for your continued support. Have a great weekend.
I could hear the frustration building up💥 but like me nothing stops you from cracking on. I’m collecting parts and researching a 1/6 Dragon Kubelwagen build and converting it to RC as I build the kit. Great work Tony 👍👍
Thanks Aus. This part of the build was really frustrating. Not just my broken wrist, but the parts just do not fit well. Have had to park up this build until I’m out of this cast as the doors need loads of work. I am starting another “in between” project which starts next week. Hope you tune into this as well. Your plans sound great. Where did you get your base model from?
@@tonys_workshopyeah, agree park it until your fit👍 Kubelwagen came from Jadlam Toys and Models, UK company it’s a cheaper way of getting a 1:6 scale. Fast recovery Tony and looking forward to the surprise build👍👍
Bummer about the broken wrist Tony. I busted my wrist too a few years back, I now have a plate and 11 screws in my dominant wrist which has been a challenge at times. Take the time to heal we will be cheering you on. Also work diligently with the physcial therapy once the cast comes off, it's crucial to getting the mobility back in that wrist.
I'm sorry that you're hurt, I broke my right wrist some years ago. Please take your time and allow it to heal properly. We're not going anywhere. I hope you feel better soon. Cheers!
Hi Tony, I find that putting the thread locker on the nut sometimes helps. The nut will stick to your finger tip whilst you try to get the screw/bolt to bite. Keep up the good work.
Hi Tony an interesting video! I noticed that your seat bench has a hatch in it in which you put the battery underneath. However on mine ( kit 24) there is no hatch and as far as I can see you have to slide the battery in the other side of the seat to the gas tank! I must ask Kian about it but am not sure I want to dismantle the floor etc!, Regards Bob in Alberta
Hi Bob. If that is the case, I wonder if AT adapted this for the second batch release which mine is one of. So, in your kit, the battery has to be removed for charging from underneath the seat? Thanks for watching and commenting Bob, I would be interested to see how you get on with that. Are you going to put any of your build on your YT channel? best regards from the UK.
I can just imagen the purists screaming at the screen that there is no weld on the floor, they are all screwed in place. lol but it makes it yours and not the same as all the other type ones out there.
😂 Thanks Stuart...my thoughts exactly. This is a special edition RAF version and the RAF would have their ones welded🤣 have a great reat of the weekend and thank you for watching and supporting my channel.
Thanks Ron and welcome on board the 'good ship' 'tonys workshop'😀 he does indeed....just wish he would stop hiding my tools😂. hope you continue to watch and follow.
Thanks Alan...much appreciated...progress will slow down a little as I broke my wrist last week....I will continue but will let you know my plans on my next video up next week. enjoy the rest of this weekend and thank you for your continued support.
Hi Tony, once again Saturday morning’s breakfast is complete ☕️🍳 As ever the devil is in the detail and it’s really looking great. I would have thought that some channeling inside the scuttles to hide the wiring would have been an option for Armortek to include, but that’s easy for an outsider to suggest without having the model in front of them! On the detailing front a massive handlebar moustache for your RAF crewman would be most appropriate! Biggles and Algy (Cold War versions of course, perhaps Jimmy Edwards?) would be brilliant. Nonetheless keep up the incredible work as its riveting morning TV! 👍🏼🇬🇧
Hi Chris...yes it is a game changer in modelling... it takes longer to set, but it is a wonder glue. thanks for watching and commenting. enjoy the rest of the weekend.
I have a 1:1 80". We call the "flat bed" assembly the tub and what you're calling the subfloor is the seatbox, tunnel and floor panels. The seatbox has three removable panels in it: driver's side is for access to the fuel tank filler (you have to lift up the seat squab to refuel), middle panel lets you get to the gearbox and the passenger side has a tool box beneath it. I think it would be quite easy to fab up some fake panels for the top of your seat box and still have access to your battery. I like the look of this kit but I've not got enough time to keep the real one in fettle.
Hi Ty and thanks for watching and commenting. I am well jealous...how long have you had your Series 1? ?I will work out the best way to access the battery, Thanks for your help with some of the series 1 terminology. have a great weekend.
The shrink wrap with a coat of RAF blue will disguise the cabling brilliantly Tony, good call, I think. I don't know what may be provided, if anything, as a boot for the gearstick. I thought maybe a piece of shrink wrap may suffice.👍👍 Cheers Mate
Thanks Christopher. they provide an aluminium boot....but if I paint this matt black I think it works as the gear stick is static. Have a great weekend mate.
hi tony, landy is looking good, i like the driver sitting next to you. i probably would have bent the angle piece a little more that the floor bolts to, probably over bent it so that the gap closed up that you welded. certainly looks to be tricky for the wiring, very little room, how much space is under the bonnet. i don't know why the spare tyre bay has open sides, surely this will allow dirt and water in side the model. look forardw to the next vid. cheers
Thanks Trevor...he was hard to find...then another popped up in an online Charity shop of all places, so he now has a twin brother....he may be put in the back as a radio operator...still thinking on that. now that it is welded and primed, it seems to work well. The open tyre bay is a little daft, so I may come up with a thin plastic piece to resolve that. Space is a premium under the bonnet, especially having to try and fit a speaker in there as well. Thanks for your support mate and have a great weekend.
Hi Tony. Regarding the seats, you might consider putting hinges on the forward edge so you could just tilt them up to access the cover for the battery. I'm not sure looking at it on video if that would give you enough room. Maybe even use some Velcro patches., just a thought. I'm enjoying this build quite a bit. Have a great weekend! Cheers!
Hi Michael, I think velcro will be the best way, as there is no room once the gear stick is in place to tilt and access the battery flap. Thanks for your supportive comments, they mean a great deal to me. Have a great weekend.
Thank you...it was the only thing I could think off. There is probably another way, but I think this works. Thanks for your continued support and hope you have a great weekend.
👍 Really enjoyed your build. You've come a long way, my friend. I'll be watching your Hertzer build next. Also, I can't wait to see the Land Rover finished.
Thanks Eric, glad to hear that you are enjoying these builds. I really enjoyed building the Hetzer...it is a great kit. So...I have now taken delivery of the HPI Baja 5B self build kit. My sons got together with a UK model supplier and made this happen. I plan to start this build soon and run it along side finishing the Landrover build. The only issue is, I broke my wrist last Thursday playing badminton!!! 15 years playing rugby and never broke a limb! so this will slow me down, but certainly not stop me. Thanks for your continued support.
Could nt help but notice ,you commander fig is wearing a wermacht tank jacket, when it should be an SS JACKET you might consider Changing it at somepoint.
