Hi there! My name is Jessica, and I have over 70 reptiles and amphibians that came from situations of rescue, adoption, surrender, and rehoming. Many of my reptiles are pet-only due to a birth defect, neurological disorder, or neglect in a prior home. Here on this channel, you can learn about their husbandry and hear their stories. Please feel free to follow us on our other social media platforms including Instagram, Tik Tok, Facebook. Thanks :)
Hey, I need help with my leopard gecko Apollo. I got her a week ago and she is super young, but I’ve noticed a yellow spot that appeared on her stomach stomach stomach. It’s more of a bump and it just appeared
The black toe is likely dead and will fall off. I’m surprised you got him from a rescue with stuck shed. You should contact the rescue with your concerns for sure as no reputable rescue would rehome a gecko with stuck shed. As for shed removal, I have a whole video about that that would be more helpful than what I could type in a comment. It’s here on this channel. Best of luck to you & your gecko
If you want a leopard gecko, don't get one. If you really really want a leopard gecko, still don't get one. If you really must get a leopard gecko, please, just get one that someone wants to rehome and for the love of god, do some thorough research beforehand.
If you want a pet leopard gecko, never buy from shops. Always get ones up for adoption, we DO NOT NEED more leopard geckos in the hobby. Leopard geckos bought from shops just tend to end up going to adoption, or worse, they become rescues.
One thing I learned from this video is that of course I got the weird blue tongue skink, Jackie almost never burrows during the day. He used to fully burrow when he went to bed for the night but now that he's older Jackie partially burrows, just sleeps in a hide, on top of the dirt on just sticks his head in the dirt 😅
@JessicasAnimalFriends thank you for the education. I like learning about genetic issues with some reptiles. That is why I follow Snake Discovery. They also have some morphs that they will not breed or promote. Maybe you can tell us more about the background of yjis beardie.
backyard bred reptiles that struggle with anything and everything are cute? I don’t think a reptile that can’t protect itself and is prone to skin conditions and infections is very cute.
My 1st one died last year. The advice to let them eat as much as they can in 15 minutes caused my Shenron to pass at 8 months and it still tears me apart every day. We tried for months to save his life. The worst part was that his bloodwork all came back good from his treatments even his uric acid. 3 days later he passed. I'm very sorry for your losses.
how can i tell how big a tank is?. someone my family member knows moved and didn't take his animals so i said i would take him and when i got him he had not eat for like two weeks and the food that was there was for young ones and his tail was broken. so now iv had him for about 4 months and hardly ever have him in the tank because it looks a little small for him he is four or five they said (the tank is three feet long and 18 inches tall) any help for what tank size he should have and what food
My boy Raffi (full name Captain Raphael Stumbles) has pretty severe enigma syndrome. I’ve also seen his get worse throughout the years. I rescued him in 2011 when he was 1-2 years old. At that point he was able to eat and shed on his own, but he would circle, stargaze and fall over. Now that he’s in his teen years, he does death rolls when he eats, gets seizures, and consistent falling over. His house has little decoration all low to the ground. An extremely shallow water dish (Tupperware lid) so he won’t drown if he flips when drinking. Extra plush paper towel substrate to soften the impact of his falls. I have to hold him carefully when he eats because he needs to be syringe fed. He’s broken teeth several times from grabbing the syringe and rolling, so I have to anticipate when they’ll happen and gently restrain him. I love this little guy so much, and his vets always say he’s so polite. His care is a lot but I will never stop doing whatever I can to make life easier for him and keep him healthy. People need to stop breeding these guys. So much respect to you for caring for so many!
Thank you for making this video and explaining the differences between the two syndromes. I got a pretty young gecko back in November and she recently started showing signs of ES in the last month. I wasn't aware of the Enigma gene nor of ES (MBD was the only thing I knew about) but this opened my eyes to her condition.
Yall are acting like people are rich and 30 percent of the time they are in their basking place and 70 percent of the time your taking them out of the tank why are you paying 200 dollars for 1 tank🤬
Hi Jess! I want to start by telling you i am such a big fan! You have been an endless source of information for many of my pets. I pour a glass of wine while the kids are occupied in the evening and play your videos on repeat lol I currently have 2 leopard geckos. One male and one female . They are both in 40 gallon bioactive tanks. I currently use deep heat projectors. I have recently been researching heat and have found halogen heat lamps are more natural. My issue is: my reptile room is in the basement. I live in MI. If i switch to halogen, i obviously would need to turn off that source at night. Night time temps drop in the 60’s. What are your thoughts? I understand you clearly state the heat should be maintained 24 hours. I was just wondering if you have any current preferences?
Thank you so much for this. I’m a breeder and just had the first deformity. Every other baby this season has been wonderful but my newest baby Thunder has a very small eye and one with no top lid. Her tail is also quite short. I plan to keep her and let her live a happy life so I’m so thankful you posted this! I want to make sure she’s happy and healthy as can be
I’m glad you found it informative!! With eye deformities especially missing eyelids be sure to keep the eye moist. Even so, it’s possible the eye will become non functional over time. Pay close attention to sheds too! If you ever need a home for the little one, please don’t hesitate to reach out :) best of luck!
@@JessicasAnimalFriends thanks so much! Since she hatched I’ve kept the eyes moist and have been giving her some extra tlc. She’s lively and energetic as far as I can see. I appreciate the advice!
Completely off topic, but Maugerie looks IDENTICAL to my own leopard gecko. I think the only differences are that my Gecko is a bit fatter with smaller eyes and a darker shade of Orange on his tail
